I need to run some 12-volt wires through the firewall into the interior but I don't have the guts to drill a hole. Has anyone located a grommet or a pre-drilled hole I can easily tap into?

I think the a/c gromet would work. Just poke a hole in it and thread the wires through.

Could you please tell me the exact location and how to find it? This is the first thing I've attempted to touch on the firewall of any car, and I'm not familiar where any of the parts are, thanks for your time .

if youre standing at the front and looking to the back of the car, its on the left hand side of the engine, i think its just about half the way up. when i wired up my friends sound system thats where i brought the 4 gauge through. its a bit of a PITA to grab at from inside the car, so use an antenna or something long and skinny so that you can draw the wire through the hole from the inside. i found it easier to remove to glove box to do this.

Monster cable has a grommet to pull different gauge wire though. I think it goes from 8 to 0 gauge that the grommet supports. I got mine at the Good Guys. Might be worth a shot. I drilled near the AC line and near the ecu harness, the only place I knew of for sure that I could get some clearance to do it. Use a regular drill bit to drill in and a dremel to grind it out (use a 90 degree adapter, it's much easier) to avoid punching a hole somewhere else.

the a/c grommet is a good one, I also use the engine harness grommet since it's bigger and has more free room in the rubber. The A/C lines occupy a higher percentage of their grommets than the harness does of its.

If you do end up drilling a hole, take it slow with the bit. The bit needs to dig into the metal, and if you drill too fast, all you do is burn up the bit. Also, use a punch of some kind to mark where you want to drill and to give an indentation so the bit won't walk on you.

Where is the engine harness grommet? The easier the better.

I actually drilled 2 holes in my firewall for a battery relocation, but...

Last night I was working on the car and discovered 2 grommets perfect for the task that are already there. They are located in the fenderwell, against the firewall. There is one in each side. The passenger's side one isn't used for anything from the showroom, but the drivers side is. Just pull them out and drill/cut a new hole in them.

And drilling a hole in the firewall wasn't a big deal, but where the cable was placed in the engine bay was no good at all - close to the engine and down low. These new grommet locations I stumbled upon were perfect for my needs, too bad I didn't see them the first time( too busy thinking about drilling I guess, heh).

They are even easily accesible from the interior unlike the harness grommet.

hope that helps you out.

I used the grommet where the cable comes out to open the hood..
