I did a search and nothing came up so if this is old hat please forgive me.

Anywho, it's like this.

I already have a civic for a daily driver so when I source an acceptable 240sx I want to build it up the way it should be... down time be damned. :p

So my preliminary goal is a have a s14 that will be fast enough to where, even though I don't race (probably because I own a 127 hp car :pface ) , I could beat I/H/E modified VR-4's, RX-7's, 300zx's, and Supra's and beat them bad enough to know that it wasn't a fluke. A mid to high 12 second car would seem to do the trick so I was wondering the WHP the car would need to make to do so on street tires with every power option intact.

Sure I could "guesstimate" but if some one here just happened to have a car like this and would like to tell me what he or she did to get it there I'd appreciate it. :)

obviously a lot, (too many) factors come into drag racing to 'guesstimate' a whp #....but if you aim for the 280-320 WHP would be in the mid to high 12's....can u get into the high 12's in an S14 with just bolt ons, full interior, and all options still in place, on street tires...NO...

turbo+engine management+fuel setup+suspension+traction....

So in your opinion it could be done with out the rebuilding of the SR? I wouldn’t know how to do that and having it done for you is quite costly. If it helps this is what I'm gonna be working to put on her (hopefully):

-Advan RG's 17x9.5 and 17x8.5 and a Z rated tire.

-Tein (probably flex) coilovers set so she rides an inch lower than stock and settings..... well If money allows I want the EDFC.

IYO if I follow the suggested parts in the "sr20 for dummies" for 350whp thread is high to mid 12's attainable? ?:|

Sorry for sounding n00bish but this will be a true "project car" I've never changed anything in a car other than tires spark plugs, batteries and oil. I want to do as much as I can by myself.

one more question. Is a 12 second daily driver to lofty a goal for a person that has never done more than maintenance on his car?

What can a stock SR20DET in a 93-94 240 fastback run with 12psi-14psi? Does anyone know the whp and quarter mile time?

I dont' think that kind of boost is possible with a stock SR20. First, with that kind of boost, you'd need an upgraded fuel pump, bigger injectors, boost controller and a bigger Intercool, a big FMIC. The stock turbo isn't very reliable over 11-12psi unless you do a LOT of maintanance on it. That'd be good for about 250rwhp, which would be a mid-high 12.

So far, the best time I have seen on a stock block and turbo was a 13.06. His mods were intake, FMIC, BOV, 3" downpipe, 3" straight pipe, 3" exhaust, 1 bar of boost (14.6 psi), fuel pump, Nitto 555R's, and I'm probably forgetting something. He got that time because those tires are like glue, very good traction. It's going to be hard to break into 12's with a mostly stock engine, though I believe it's possible, and I intend to do just that. :)

A stock fc rx7 T2 is on the same playing field as the sr 240sx. So mod for mod there about the same. The fd on the other hand is a little more competition. Mod for mod the sr won't win. The awd dsm cars are around the same as the sr 240's but hook up alot faster in the 1/4 and generally have better 60' times. Anyways 1 bar or 14.5 psi is the max boost you should run on the stock t25 or the t28. If you boost anymore your turbo just looses efficiency and wears faster. My buddy running z32 mafs, 550cc, upgraded fuel pump, dp, full exhaust, fpr, fmic, avcr set at 14.5, and safc is running 13.1 in the 1/4 with really sucky 15" street tires and open diff. Thats on an s13 though. I'm sure high 12's are within reach of a moded s14 with stock turbo. High 12's are fairly easily attainable with the t25 and t28 tubines. The hp efficiency on the t25 is around 270hp and the s14 t28 is around 330hp.

So if my goal was 320-330whp (which it is) 12 seconds is within reach?

330whp I would say yes. You have to take alot of things into consideration though. Driver experience level, skills, tunning, over all maintenance and tuning of the car, etc...

....Oh I'm good. Don't worry about my skill. :pface

J/K but seriously, I think I can row though the gears as fast as the average guy on the street. :D

Anyone can shift fast, but do you have good tree reaction times? You can tell any ol kid that has never driven your car and tell him to speed shift, and within 15 mins or so he will figure out and get used to the whole thing. You put the same kid on a 1/4 mile strip and tell him to run 12s, most likely he will either foul out or have crappy 60ft reactions and not get near the 12s.

Naturally. I live in a podent town in the middle of CA so the nearest track is about a hour away. :(

I'd probably only go to the strip once or twice to see exacly what it could do and the track a couple of times to fine-tune the suspension (and for fun of course :D ).

Like like I said... My goal is to own a daily driver that is complete in every catagory (looks, handling and power) and is capable of embarrassing those idiots in TT supras and RX-7s when they rev their engine because they want to know what a car with a s15 front-end conversion has under the hood. :)

Where you running slicks or stock tires? Thats what I want to hit too for a daily driven car...low 13s. Would a red top hit the same numbers? And what was your psi?

An open differential is a 'regular' differential. Nothing is special about it. It transfers power to the wheel that is spinning the fastest and has least resistance. Ever see one of those american muscle cars or ANY car for that matter burn out with only one tire? THAT is an open differential.

ItzGenX - I tried to email you but I guess it didn't go through so I'm gonna post off topic for a bit.

Is that site in your sig big enough to source a 240sx? I mean ...a good quality one for cheap (or at least reasonable)?I'm actually looking for an automatic 96 civic (Daily driver, mine's a 5-speed) and a s14 240sx. Would it be worth the $49 IYO to search for those two cars there?
