I'm stealing this pic from another thread.

My buddy who socketed my ECU for me works on a LOT of hondas and he noticed something that looks exactly like the datalogging port on honda ECUs.

look below the socket and you see 4 filled in holes with the numbers 4 and 1 on either end and a box drawn around it..

Apparently on honda cars if you solder in a 4 port plug you can wire it for RS-232 communications to do datalogging..

Has anyone tried this?

Here's how it looks on HONDAH cars..

That looks pretty interesting, although I don't think I want to be the first one to try it

Look at the back of the board and see if it has any traces going to it.

It does.

Again stealing Fst caz images..

You can see the 4 solder points with traces.

so what kind of connector can actually plug into that? is there an adapter for a serial port that plugs into that 4pin female connector? then we could use something like Live Edit or EcuEdit to montior via that plug (in theory)? I have a spare ecu now...

Interesting.

I am almost certain thre is in fact a serial port (maybe not exactly RS232) on the ECU's microprocessor but that it isnt connected to anything (or anyways, connected to anything external allowing its use).

Also from my understanding there is no code to use the serial port for anything so wiring it up would do nothing on the CA ECU..

If this were newer tech I'd suspect it of being a JTAG in-system programming header or something similar for flashing the micro, but this is 80's tech..

Japanese 80s tech. They are more advanced than us .
