Park under lights at night, but a house with a garage (or find an apartment with enclosed parking), don't drive your OWN car to parties (ride with someone), lock it and invest in a good quality SILENT alarm with a pager and visual deterrents (LED's and warning decals).
Make the OTHER guy's car more a more attractive target.
HAHAHAHAHA, its too easy to tell who is not from the tri-state. Here they will steal the car out from your garage and be in Newark stripping it before you can even realize its gone. Theives here will steal your car while you are up at home. On my friend's street they dissassembled parts of the alarm, put them on the road, and did donuts around them before they bounced...I assume someone really disliked this person.
Aside from LoJack you are basically F'ed no matter what you do. But to get back to the initial question, Nissans are far less desireable than Hondas...however this may change slightly in the future, as 240s gain popularity.
PS, HID theft is out of control in NJ/NY...the two Nissan dealers by me pull the grills and headlights off ALL Maximas they hold in their lots. Looks so funny.
