Hi i'm going to sell my honda civic si mainly due to thefts and vandalism. My car has been stolen once and broken into 3 other times. I'm planning to get a nissan 240sx as a commuter/beater car and eventually upgrading to the s13 blacktop with s15 or s14 face conversion. I was wondering if a lot of nissan owners experience theft...because I know from the honda forums...a lot of honda owners are getting jacked...almost daily. I know hondas are really easy to steal, are nissans as easy to steal?

I have seen several instances of HID head lights being stollen from new Altimas here in NJ.

It looks like a simple job to break the grill and pull the complete light units from the car. Maybe 3 or 4 minuets.

The HID light units are expensive to replace.

HID theft with the 02 and 03 Maximas are high too. The lights fit perfectly in a 00 and 01 Max so they are highly desireable.

It mostly isolated to the NJ/NY area as well as a couple of major Cli cities on the HID theft.,

But certainly is worst in/around NYC.

I don't worry if my car is stolen. I knew someone who had an alarm on his car and one night someone was breaking into his car. Anyway, when he confronted the guy he was smoked . I say if they want it that bad let them have the damn thing.

i say knock on my door and i will unlock my car so you can take my ****, but don't break my window. I don't have a system but hate replacing windows and cd players. I have had windows replaced and they are never the same. Nick

I talked to this one guy that had a civic hatchback that usually let's his car stay unlocked always so if thieves wanted to steal his huge tach, cds, or cd player in his car they wouldn't have to break his windows :pface

i actually dont lock my doors either. a new cd player is easier and cheaper then doing a door lock or window ! also only reall thiefs will be able to sucessfully get a radio out of a 240sx ! that DIn cage makes it a reall ****** to get out with out taking out the screws and brackets i never leave my face or Cds in tha car any more

Instead of going through all that hassle, change your behavior. Park under lights at night, but a house with a garage (or find an apartment with enclosed parking), don't drive your OWN car to parties (ride with someone), lock it and invest in a good quality SILENT alarm with a pager and visual deterrents (LED's and warning decals).

Make the OTHER guy's car more a more attractive target.

Last fall we had a rash of car break-ins in our Apartment Complex. All of the Honda Civics in the complex were broken into. They also broke into our neighbor's (next building down) Jetta. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and watching these guys mess with his trunk. It was pouring down rain and I thought it was just the owner trying to get his stuff out and the alarm would not shut off. Problem with apt complexes is there are tons of cars; people constantly coming and going and people that really don’t want to get involved if something is going on. I honestly think that they targeted our complex due to the fact that we are in an area on the county border that has very low police presence at night. They have stolen audio equipment and car parts (neighbor’s focus had the airbag stolen). I am glad that I am moving into a house next month and will have a 2-door garage to park my Altima and WRX.

Its almost the same problem here in Granger. There is almost no crime in my town first of all its more upper class people. We have trouble with people driving 10 minutes from a bigger city and going through the subdivisions because there are low number of cops patrolling at night. The only crimes that are taking place are people breaking into cars and homes.

actually hitman parking under lights is more apealling to most thiefs, it makes it alot less ovbious that your breaking into the car since your not useing a flashlight to look through it and most people dont think theifs would be that stupids yet thats what the theif knows they are thinking

HAHAHAHAHA, its too easy to tell who is not from the tri-state. Here they will steal the car out from your garage and be in Newark stripping it before you can even realize its gone. Theives here will steal your car while you are up at home. On my friend's street they dissassembled parts of the alarm, put them on the road, and did donuts around them before they bounced...I assume someone really disliked this person.

Aside from LoJack you are basically F'ed no matter what you do. But to get back to the initial question, Nissans are far less desireable than Hondas...however this may change slightly in the future, as 240s gain popularity.

PS, HID theft is out of control in NJ/NY...the two Nissan dealers by me pull the grills and headlights off ALL Maximas they hold in their lots. Looks so funny.

You can make them fit...some just drop in and other you have to make fit. It is easy though.
