Anyone man enough to drop in the 300z TT rear axle into their 03-04 M45?

Has anyone here done a rearend swap in one of these cars?

I'm really tempted to do this, but I haven't searched for a capable mechanic yet. If anyone can answer these questions I'd appreciate it.

What kind of acceleration gains can I assume? Any rough estimates for the total cost?

How much rpm will I be giving up at 70mph?How much worse will gas mileage be?

Take the cube root of the ratio difference and convert to a percentage.....that will give you a close approximation of the increased acceleration in each gear.

3.70/3.313=1.1168 ^3root ~~2.225so 2.22% increase or reduction in time in each gear or quarter mile unfortunate you may end up adding another gear shift into the mix which might negate any gain.

We had a few Q45 where the 3.538 stock diff was upratioed to 4.083 [300zx NA] a 15.4% increased rpm and a 2.5% improvement in acceleration

Didn't help quarter mile because the transmission shifted into 3rd at 77 mph instead of finishing quarter mile at 98 in 2nd gear redline.

Same problem as the M with a diff change.

Why not stop at 3.538 as the 2007 M45 has.

I haven't done my homework on the available differentials that are compatible with the M. Can you list the available diffs and their corresponding ratio?

Thanks!

I might do it later on just because I would prefer a posi unit, as I believe our Ms are open diffs

Is it crazy to ask if the 6spd would match up to our V8s? Maybe some one has access to this info? That with some new gears would be bad A$$.

anything can be done with enough time and money, we all know that. it would be nice to have a 6sp M45, i know i would love one. check out the other sections on this forum. i remember a couple guys doing 5 or 6sp trannies with the older v8s but they were on other nissan/infiniti cars though, but do a search there will be good info on the bellhousings and spacers brackets that they usedcheers
