Anyone have any experience converting their Rb26 240 into AWD. What are you opinions on it, and estimate on cost

i don't know of anyone who's actually pulled it off.

i know there have been a couple pop up on ebay... half-way through... right about the point where they realize they can't do it.

You would have to spend enough money to make it work that you could have just imported a skyline.

I bet $30k would do it.

You would have to custom fabricate the entire front suspension/axles positions, etc.. a TON of work.

i was looking at a gtr front clip with everything in tact, and it seems like if you know how to fabricate ****, it really wont be all that expensive to do assuming you have all the skyline front end suspension components in working order. It would take alot of time tho. but then again, i have never done it or even tried to do it so i dont know

the thing that most people forget tho is that it isn't just a matter of swapping suspension and what not, one of the major differences is that on the gtr the front portion of the frame goes up over the front acle shafts where as in the 240 the frame is straight through where the axle is supposed to go. However, anything is possible w/ money, I'd love to win the lotto and make a awd <2500 lb beast.

it could be done by a competent body shop provided a doner GT-R unibody to cnnibalize. You would need to graft in the Skyline strut towers and lower frame rails (they are notched to clear the halfshafts). You would need to swap the 240 floor for the GT-Rs to get the clearance and mounting points fro the transmission and use the R's engine crossmember. after that it's just bolt stuff on.

Don't forget that you would probably need the GTR Body Harness and Engine Harness in order to run the Atessa and Hicas system correctly.

there was a guy that got close, but he was gettin parts through night7 and just ran outta money(cause he was havin to rebuy ****) he got to the point of wiring and then it became more than he could handle. my rb25 clip came with the full chassis harness and there were 4 other computers attached to it. since the attessa is controlled by a computer in the trunk you need that harness.

I think the way to do this would be to import a wrecked R32 GTR front clip from Japan.

Take it to a very good fabricator and weld the new front end onto a 240 chassis. I think they are comparable size as the R32 front conversions seam to fit an S13 very well. You would have to be very happy with the quality of the welds and reenforcement. But, It could be done.

Then all you would have to do is get a custom driveshaft and spend a few months wiring it properly.

That might be workable?

I still don't like the idea of cutting and rewelding frame rails and stuff.

thats probably the best way, but it could get real expensive. as i remember this guy used the r33 xmember in an s14 and went from there. if you plan out ahead of time you can get everything you need to do the swap. the awd computer seems to be the big hang up though.
