Hello everyone,
I'm currently having problems finding an auto transmission for my 1.8l ca18de.. Does anyone have any idea where I can get one and how much I should expect to pay?
My current transmission has problems shifting between gears and I just want to get one before it goes out.
Thanks in advance.

1988 Nissan Pulsar NX. Automatic. 1.8L.

I am located in Florida, have been to every junkyard and local shop. No luck.

To be quite frank with you, seriously consider getting it rebuilt because anything you find now is going to be used and worn pretty good.

You're in luck I know exactly (almost to the degree, minute, and second of latitude and longitude, lol) where there is a 1988 Pulsar with an automatic CA18DE.

Idk what there prices are like if they pull the parts. Whenever I go there I pull them and usually get parts for stupid cheap, especially if I ask the old guy that owns the place for a price (he usually just give me scrap price and lets my have plastic stuff). Engines they already have pulled seem to be about normal junkyard prices. Whenever my stepdad or I have pulled a motor from a car it's usually like $50-$75 (I guess just scrap price) and they guarantee the crank (if it's bad they let you bring it back and grab another motor if they one). So idk what the transmission would be. The car was wrecked up front, and I mean it got slammed, but I'm pretty sure the motor and transmission would still be good. It looks like everything just got pushed up to the motor, but didn't quite hit it. Regardless, it'll be a pain to pull.

Holy crap!!! You have a sportbak? Man those thing are a rarity. Personally, I'm not too crazy about them, but everyone else who's a Pulsar fanatic sure is. Hey Maz, Neon, Packrat, and Livelyjay, it looks like we another owner to add to the "Sportbak America List."

Thanks a lot for your information. I'm definitely going to give this guy a call tomorrow, but I dont know if he'll be able to ship it to me..
Florida to AL is kinda a long drive.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of it at first, but I've grown attached to it. I have to admit it's pretty freakin hilarious when people see it and automatically assume it's a DeLorean.

Outside of this transmission, my car is almost completed. It sat unlicensed for 10 years (title was from 2002 when i got it),so I guess I'm fortunate everything still works. Of course since it sat for 10 years, it needs new paint (sportbak is chipping) and a hole on each side of the bottom part of the body repaired. But at least it has factory new interior (original owner stored it in the garge and rarely had anyone sit I the back).I guess that makes up for it.
I've got a vid I can post of it later.. It's on YouTube and is linked to my indiegogo campaign.. I'm 18 and am probably the youngest Sportsbak owner out there.. Hard to make all these repairs when I'm in college full time.

Just called today and spoke with the owner. They don't have a Pulsar or an automatic transmission for it. They probably rotated the car out of their inventory.

Naw, they definitely have it. There's a lot of stuff out they they don't know they have. I don't think they keep their stuff very up to date unless it's something people come for all the time. Idk if you could get them to look for it or not, but I could tell you exactly where it is in the yard. If not, though, then I hope you like road trips, lol. Or it's time for a 5-speed swap :chuckle:

Well, a round trip is 1,241 miles from Florida to AL.. Too far. Not to mention I don't even know if it's going to run.
A 5 speed swap is definitely NOT going to happen.. I tried driving my mom's 1983 Pulsar but failed epically.
I received a call today from a shop in Mississippi and the guy there managed to locate me a Rebuilt Trans for only $1,100.. Looks like i'm going to start saving!

dude, now is good as ever to learn to drive manual... what sports cars you're going to get years from now? all of them auto?
refusing to learn manual is just limiting your vehicle options in the future... besides, manuals are much more reliable
