i can't get the furnace for my upstairs apartment to fire and i need heat so the painters can get their recoat done. when turned on, nothing happens. the automatic water feed turns on, a relay in the low water shutoff box clicks, but that's it. the motor was pulled, it spins freely by hand, and when put to power, it works. the oil pump also spins nicely, so i'm ruling those two out. i'm getting power to the control box from the shut-off switch, but not to the motor. so we're thinking it's the control box itself.

i just wanted to see if anyone has any more insight before i buy a new control box that isn't needed.

yes, there's fuel, and we did try by-passing the thermostat

Talked to a knowledgeable industry pro. He agreed with my diagnosis. $120 later and I should be up and running again.

New control box installed. Motor spun, bam, we got ignition and flame. For 10 seconds. Fail, but it's progress. I did some more research and the symptoms point to a cad sensor related issue. The cad sensor senses the light from the flame and does something with that information. What it does with said information is apparently above my pay grade.

I read that the sensor would either be too dirty, no good, or the relay in the control box is shot. Well it's a brand new box, so I'm putting faith that the relay is good. I pulled the sensor and saw it was sooty around the outer edges. Cleaned it up and tried again. Flame on, still for only 10 seconds. Expletives.

Ok, I'll call it a day and source a new cad cell in the morning, it's time for defeat beer. I decided that since I was already screwing around with the furnace, I may as well pull the injector/ignitor assembly and give it a good cleaning.

Polished that shiz up, reinstalled, and what do you know? That steam maker is running on all 8 cylinders, vtec revs screaming, y0.

Victory beers taste so much better.

Nice! Good job figuring that out and not spending more money.
