Someone has an 87 Dodge Shadow 2.2 liter turbo posted on my works swap shop. They are only wanting like 500 dollars for it. I am trying to find me a cheap car so I can sell my truck. I am getting rid of all of my debts so I can get a house.

Anyway, anyone had any experience with these cars. Generally, I stay very, very far away from dodges. But that is mainly because of all the problems they have had with their trucks, and SUV's.

I would like to find a cheap Sentra around a 89 to 92 model. But no luck on one in good condition, and in two door.

Is that where they pay $500 you to take the Shadow? I had a co-worker that bought a new Shadow several years ago. He couldn't wait to get rid of it. In fact he ended up trading it on a Civic before he finished paying it off. Not a ringing endorsement. I won't guarantee you that this particular shadow would be as bad as my co-workers experience, but I recommend avoiding Shadowsand wait for something better to come along...

There's a member here with the screen name "4cefed". He has tons of experience with Dodge turbo cars. He even owns one of the new SRT-4 Neons. You should look him up in the member's section and email him.

that 2.2 can be rebuilt for about 500 dollars...

it's supposed to be a pretty damn durable motor really, it's what the Shelby cars used in a slightly detuned version.

Don't think I'd want it for a daily driver though, more of something to play with and reak havoc on the ricers kids. Same motor powers a lot of 11sec caravans:D

Well, I do still have ye' ole Metro that only needs an alternator. It will be fixed as soon as my sister gives me the title back.

I will probally call the lady about this car tomorrow and go look at it.

Thanks for the info and opinions. I tend to stay away from Dodge's, but will probally get this one if it runs alright and doesn't look too beat up.

Definately a lot of sleeper shadows running ridiculous boost and whipping up on unsuspecting ricers.

Just be careful- you don't want to get hooked and feel like blowing mod money on it. I know of a few people who have had some kind of problem with the turbo in the 2.2 warping on them.

The guy who owns Alepha's Auto here in Rockland NY has 11-12 sec Dodge daytona. I think its the same motor that you mentioned. The list of mods is as thick as a dictionary, he made almost everything custom. The shop mainly works on bodies, but in his spare time he races boats. He builds the engines himself. I think he had something like a 1000+ hp oldsmobile big block.... before he hit a wake at 85 and destroyed his boat. So yes, the car has potential.

probably so, the 2.2 and 2.5 turbo were Dodge's workhorse performance engine for the decade.

the Shelby Z Daytona had the best version, I believe it had a slightly better turbo maybe...I know it had a good intercooler though...

I want to find an elusive Shelby Turbo Rampage. catruck fun!

Too bad there are no good sites for these cars that I have found, like Nico. Well, there is only one Nico.

The way I am reading this info, what little bit I have found, is that the model I am looking at is non-intercooled, and may come equipped with a T3.

I am gonna call the person today, and go look at it in the next day or two. Gotta pay taxes on the truck, fore I can get another license plate. Guess I should do that today or tomorrow.

If I did get it, I would find my a decent intercooler off a Volvo or something else, at my parts supplier (junkyard :D ). And see 'bout an exhaust.

yeah, only the Shelby's where intercooled.

umm...one of the 11sec caravans actually ran a 3/4 ton Powerstroke intercooler. It's a pretty cheap intercooler from Ford really....like 300 or so...

you really gotta search to find out more about them. Your best source of knowledge would be to talk to a chrysler mechanic about them. I haven't heard any horror stories about them from my uncle, he's known a few people that had vehicles with the motors and didn't hear too much about them.

it may be a T3...maybe...I can't really remember...

I'm still researching. But, if it runs, sounds good, and miles aren't over 200K, I will probally buy it, if for nothing else but a daily driver.

Mopar still sales some parts for it. An after market cpu, injectors, clutches, and such. I am more concerned with intercooling for now. I am gonna go and try to look at it tomorrow/today. I will let you guys know if I pick it up.
