as far as a retrofit I couldn't help you. I just put a bi-xenon HID kit into my '00 lens. Regardless of what everyone else says no one has given me a link to the actual law that states it's illegal. Only links to a page stating that a group of people think it should be. Well /rantoff

To crack open the lens, I believe the process is preheating an oven to 200deg and placing the lens into it for a few minutes. It'll soften up the glue holding the two pieces together and then you just need to take a screwdriver or butter knife and separate the pieces. I've seen a lot of variations of the time/temperature. The basic thing to understand is that with a lower temperature you get a much larger room for error versus a higher temp which gives you a smaller window where the glue is loose to when your lens is melting. I've heard some people wet a towel and wrap the lens in it so that it protects the lens from melting but still allows the heat to get to the glue to soften it up.

After that, you're on your own. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

I'm just letting you know that if someone knows their stuff they could give you a real hard time. The other law that could kick you is that if a headlamp has a 'DOT' stamp on it you can't alter it. But beyond that

I haven't done this myself. I've done other vehicles but not my max. I haven't had a need to remove the headlights or alter them at all so I'm not much help. Good luck
