Does anyone here know anything about replacing rod bearings on an sr20det? What's involved, difficulty level, parts and prices, etc.?

Is is just a matter of replacing the bearings, or do I need to replace connecting rods, pistons, etc.

Thanks.

My bearings were shot, so I replaced the rod bearings, main bearings and the thrust washers. I used the the USDM SR20DE parts.

could you be more specific? What kind of man hours are we looking at to replace them, and how much are the parts?

Before you go replacing the bearings again think twice...if your bearings are bad then are the rod journals on your crankshaft scarred at all? If they are it wouldnt take long to ruin the bearings again. To be safe if you want to replace the rod bearings you should pull the crankshaft and take it in to be polished or milled depending on how deep the scarring is.

Well.. considering the potential problems ( rod bearings, crankshaft, rods, pistons, etc. ), and the potential cost in labor ( since I'm getting this done by a shop ), wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a sr20det block ( 800-1k ) and replace the existing one?

It shouldnt cost any more money for you to have this one rebuilt than it would for you to buy a rebuilt shortblock. Its just which you prefer. A rebuilt shortblock will cost more, but you can pull your engine, swap the head and drop it back in without having to wait for your block to be rebuilt. If you dont need your car for awhile see how much it will cost to rebuild your block, you can probably save some money that way.
