So nissan uses he grading system for bearings... In the FSM, it says the main use grades, and rods use grades.

Now, nissan offers a STD size on the main, and individual grades for the rods.

1st, is the nissan STD set good for them mains?2nd, how can i tell what grade i need? One side has the rod number, on the other side of the rod/cap, there is a 5, 2, 0. what number am i looking for?

Not sure if this helps, but here it goes.

I had my crank mic'd and micro polished. Looked good to order some standard sized rod and main bearings. I called AMS and ordered bearings along with rods and such from them. I didn't recall reading about anything with the grades/colors/numbers thing. I thought that was only on the SR's?

Anyways, there's some personal info.

thanks for the reply... when using aftermarket rods, that goes out the window. And if material is taken off the crank, it goes out the window. I may just have the crank polished to match std bearing.

You buy your 'grade' of rod bearing by thickness, or clearances. Its best to bring your block to a machine shop and mic it out, then recommend one of the 3 different bearings.

I think somewhere in the FSM it tells you how to read the crank for that, but if your using a used crank you really should have it measured to make sure clearances are optimal.

Thicknesses of std size rod bearings available. Grade 0 - .0593-.0594 (in)Grade 1 - .0594-.0595Grade 2 - .0595-.0596
