Anyone installed an aftermarket Navi System? If so can you share how you did it?

I'm new to the M45 Forum and just bought a beautiful 2003 Black on Black M45 (Pics to come) But for the life of me I couldn't find one with the factory Navigation so I wanted to install the Pioneer AVIC N3 Flip out Navigation/DVD Reciever in my car (possibly replacing the useless Cassette deck) ...but the Audio/Video people tell me it can't be done.

If anyone has done it can you please tell me how and possibly post some pics of the custom work. As you know theres not much room on the dash for custom pieces.

It can be done. After removnig the wood trim and exposing the cassette deck, remove the bracket from the side of the cassette deck. The cassette deck then can be pushed up and back further in the dash. It can be moved up enough to put in a single din radio or motorized nav screen. The cassette deck needs to remain connected as it is also the head unit of the Bose system.

I did something similar to this but modified the dash to accept a nav with a 7" lcd screen. I plan to post a write up this weekend. Stay tuned.

I have the 07 m35 and decided not to get the car with the factory nav system. wasn't quite pleased with the interface. personally I think investing some money in a portable unit is a better choice. I have a portable gps device (garmin nuvi) which works great.

Thanks guys please send pics when possible...and the portable unit is my back up plan would just love to have the Navi/DVD!!!

so i have the m45 03 wid no navigation and no dvd player but i want an dvd player instlled but i took it so many places they saaid i cant install it i need help to put the dvd inside my car just wondering the screen we already have y cant we hook the dvd player wid that can we do that????

boy, they dont come with dvd players(no years do) but the navigation is dvd based. you have to do other things to be able to watch anything else on the screen. The screen that is used on the 03-04 Ms is a bit bigger than the ones without Nav. To get that system to work would cost about $5,000 in parts or so.
