The Marines will be the best and worst times of your life but I have never met a former Marine who really regretted his decision.
You become a part of a brotherhood that non-Marines can never understand no matter how hard they try. Most days I don't even think about it but all it takes is another guy mentioning he was in the Marines and suddenly you have a new buddy.
Sure there were some things I hated. Lots of cleaning, drill, etc. At times it will feel like you have an overbearing father breathing down your neck over every little mistake and you have a lot less freedom than civilians but it also changes your outlook on life.
Life's little difficulties become mundane. The cop that pulled you over and tried to intimidate you with a gruff voice and demeanor...give me a break. Ssgt. Ross makes him look like a child throwing a temper tantrum. The dude thats 8 inches taller than you and 50 lbs heavier that gets in your face... Bring it on. Plenty of people can kick my *** but I am afraid of no one.
Above all, nothing can compare to the day you graduate from 3 long months of recruit training. It felt like an electric current ran up my spine the day my senior drill instructor barked
PLATOON ONE THOUSAND...ONE HUNDRED...AND EIGHTY EIGHT.........DISMISSED
Besides where else will you get the chance to fire a .50 cal machine gun, an M60, an M249 S.A.W. or my personal favorite, the Mk 19 Automatic Grenade Launcher. This baby fires 40mm grenades at about 400 rounds per minute depending on the exact model. The effect downrange is truly a sight that has to be seen to be appreciated.
