Anyone here talked to the ECU thru CONSULT?

Hi there. Has anyone here done any serial debugging with the CONSULT interface? I have finally gotten my interface board working, and can *sorta* communicate with the ECU. However I am not getting responses that I am expecting. This is being tested on a US-spec S13 FYI('91 with DE). 9600,8,N,1.

When I try to unlock/init the ECU, by sending 0xFF,0xFF,0xEF, I do not get 0x10. Insted it is 0xFE(or EF, 'top of my head). I have verified the clock(~153.6Khz), and TX output from my interface with an o-scope. I can get responses from other commands, but again they are not as expected.

There is *one* thing that works: if I use Zcontrol(demo), I can turn the AC condensor fan relay ON/OFF. I have tried this and SRTalk, but neither work properly; SRTalk tells me it can talk to the ECU, but is not receiving the response it is expecting.

Anyone?Thanks!-Slip

You might want to check your interface is built correctly.

http://www.zcontrol.net has the schematics.

Mine works fine for all my Nissan cars.

have you tried the demo of conzult?http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/if your interface works, that program should work for you.I never got my interface to work, i think i accidentally put 2 max232 chips in it instead of a max232 and a 4060 binary counter. I'm not sure, but i never got it to work, and I can't confirm what chip is which. Is there any way to desolder them from the board to replace them?

S3: Thx for the response, sorry for the delay. My board is *slightly* different, but it shouldn't make much difference. For example, I use a 4060BCM, which is a counter only(no divider, but thats not used here). Also a MAX232ACSE, which is just a variation of the packaging.

I'm like 99.9% sure my board works ok: as mentioned before, I have the correct clock frequency present at the CLK pin. Also if I tie the Tx output to the Rx input on my interface board, I get characters typed echoed back to me(loopback test).

I guess I will have to do more digging: I was hoping someone had actually done some communication manually through a terminal program. But you say that ZControl should work with my KA24DE? Well I'll have to work up to that point then.

Thanks!-Jamie

PS-Bronze, you should be able to remove those thru-hole parts pretty easily. Do you want to save the chip you are removing? If so, use some desolder-braid(get what you pay for here, trust me), and pull the solder off the bottom of the pins: it should pop right out then. If you have replacement(s), just cut the legs off near the platic body. Then just heat the legs and pull them up from the top with a pair of tweezers or needle-nose. HTH

I use a PLMSdevelopments.com consult interface with their nissan datascan software. It has worked flawlessly for me. It is pretty cheap too. I guess I'm just too lazy to build my own.
