Do it. I reaaaallly wanted to get one when I got my Miata, but I figured the miata could be a stepping stone to my Boxter later. Its regarded as one of the best 2 seater convertibles ever made man...

Would you be getting rid of the duck?

Nice car, good performance (on par with S2000), expensive repair bills.

BTW, the s2000 has been the cleanest and easiest car to change the oil on to date. Everything can be done from the top side of the engine bay...if that matters at all to you.

I would not be able to bring myself to buy a car that slow with the Porsche badge on it. But that's me.

The new ones are alarmingly fast. Porsche severely under-rates their cars performance specs.

But he's looking at the 1st gen ones, and those are just slow.

Likely never, unless a Saab enthusiast or someone I knew made a generous offer. After bringing it back from the grave, I'd hate to see it go to someone who would neglect it. I just wish it had a manual, otherwise I wouldn't be looking for an additional car. I could gather up the parts and do the conversion, but there's only 110k on the auto. Seems like a waste to do it now.

Yep. It's infectious. SBC-swapped Jags are the best of everything. You've got British styling and build quality that's better than the Rolls Royces of the same period along with a simple, reliable, and cheaply maintained torquey American V8. Furthermore, people just GIVE them away, and I'm not sure why.

Anyway, I wasn't personally talking smack on the 924 and 914, I love both of them. Porsche snobs don't though. I flag PCA events at Summit sometimes, and they can be an...er...interesting bunch. The DC chapter had an event called "Porsches and Yachts". It's absurd.

There's a whole little splinter faction of local P-car enthusiasts who want nothing to do with the Potomac chapter PCA.

American V-8 swaps into European cars have been around for decades. If done to a collectible like an E-type (XKE), it pretty much kills the value. So it seems logical to assume if done on a non-collectible (like an XJ), its value will sink as well.

I don't share as much love for the 924 and 914, having driven both. I liked them but not enough to want to own one.

Do it. Looks like a clean Jag, if you could talk yourself out of a vert that is. Are you dead set on having two verts since you already have the Saab? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a convertible myself but that's a nice Jag for the price.

A buddy of mine had one of the 1st gen Boxsters though and I was pretty impressed by it, I can't say I wouldn't consider one even though i'm a big fan of older 911's.

I dunno Jesda, the paint looks brand new, which could be covering a car that had a pretty rough life. If you look at the engine compartment, it includes part of the exterior (the base of the windshield). Theres no wiper blade and badly faded paint. Those are warning signs to me.

Well, without an open top, there's no deal.

That can be easily remedied with Billy Idol and a sawzall.

Looks like all the best and cheapest ones are in California, which is awesome since I wanted to take a road trip anyway.

I might be in TPA in a few days, actually. [Free road trip, can't pass it up.] Tell me of a good place to get interesting local food and I'll pay.

Now I'm sad. i won't get to meet the Brown guy! I'll be in WI again :squint:

I'd hit up one of the hole in the walls off Dale Mabry honestly. Most of the cuban ones are delicious!
