Good for going in a straight line, with plenty of aftermarket.

Don't take turns, the chassis may split in half.

yeah dude, 82 was the year they brought back the gt 5.0. its runs 157hp @4200rpm and 240 ft/lb @ 2400rpm if im not mistaken. eventually they started building up to more hp but the 82 was the stepping stone on getting the old mustang muscle car back.its a big a** v8 which is going to go through gas like crazy. its mostly going to be driven around town no long commutes. I'm actually taking your guys advice and letting my son get his own car. my brother in law has this in his shop and is willing to let my son do payments on it. now he's all motivated to get a job. he's getting it for 1k. now its time to teach him to drive a manual transmission car!!FUN!!!!!

WOA NICE! having him pay for the car will make him respect it alot more! And this way, you get to sneak some rides in a 5.0 stang every once in a while Its a nice car, I actually like that mustang, alot of people hate on it

exactly what i was thinking!!! and I did some research and I think its a 83 because of the matte black paint on the hood. which means the 83 was faster but only at 175hp instead of the 157.. i'll find out for sure today when we test drive it. i'll keep you guys posted and if he gets it i'll post pics

It's a good platform for him to get his feet wet. Make sure and put some decent tires on them. The *ss end is real light and has tendency to want to get a touch loose in the rain. I think they came with 225/60R15's in a "V" speed rating. Stay in at least a "V" or "Z". The "H" rating tends to be a bit hard for wet conditions. Call it cheap safety. I know a number of buddies who have them and love the platform. Should be a good project for him to learn to "Mod" and actually see results, plus there are enough in the boneyard to scavenge parts from cheap. Good luck with it.. post pics if you get it (we're all family here - and I know a guy who posted pics of his Charger on here and was well received ).

Oh yea.. side note.. look at my cars.. I don't hate on the Stangs

Mustangs are probably my favorite car. It should be a good car for your son too, just hopefully he doesn't turn into some of my friends with theirs. If the motor does go, look into a 351 swap. The one in my bronco hauls so I'd love to see it in a foxbody.

5.0s are nice if you can afford the gas they take. Parts are dirt cheap as well. And who doesn't like the sound of a nice v8?

if you are getting a 5.0, don't bother with any one other than the 87-92.

94-95 5.0s have engine restrictions and don't take to aftermarket tuning/programs as well.

Anything Pre 87 is mostly a waste.

they made 5.0s after 92? I didn't know that. This car is still beautiful though. I bet it sounds MEAN and all it really needs is a nice wash and wax.

Yes. 1993 style:

IIRC '94 and '95 5.0s were this body style:

The motors are garbage compared to the earlier models though.

Pre-92, maybe even Pre-93, the internals for the 5.0s were forged, so they could handle most of what everyone was throwing at them, and they took to mods easily.
