With quality band style clamps like pictured below or similar. I'd like to install my own resonator and aftermarket muffler and keep the stock pipe size. With the stock piping 1 7/8" or 2 inch whichever it is, get a resonator thats 2.25 inch so it fits on like a sleeve and then clamp it up...

Anyone else here do their exhaust on the cheap/DIY ?

Ibrowne,

i recently performed some preventative maintenance on a 2003 mazda tribute... & it has the cheaper u bolt exhaust clamps from FORD escape!... already starting to rust n shizz... no leaks yet, but....

so it's doable, but you're up there in salt road land, correct???

soo, you're going to be replacing that stuff in a few years anyways; just limited to your budget, i guess

ahhh, so its just better to go with an exhaust shop. That I'll do, just not yet for a little bit.

We don;t get the salt like some areas, its not bad at all.

not really, if you use ss pipes/mufflers, & just change those couplers if they rust out, you're ahead of the game in terms of you comparing prices w/ a shop i guess...

(you may still need to get the shop to mandrel bend those pipes to fit your application, i guess)
