MB Quartz: yes, they use to be pretty good.. I have a set of their PCE 210 components from BEFORE they were taken over.... now I think they are made in China, but they sound AWFUL.... stay away from any of their new stuffSuBXeRo wrote:So i am curious, i have been staring at car audio for a long time just teasing myself with things i can't really afford right now. In the end, i know i want to upgrade to something better than my stock system now, i dont have bose so in a way it makes things a bit easier. I have been looking at MB Quarts, i know they were good before maxxonics took them over, anyone know what they are like now? I am looking to buy online when i do so i can get a better price, i know how to install them so thats not a problem. As much as i would love to have 500-1000 bux a set comps, i would never bring myself to do it. I was looking about 200-250 max for comps, speakers about 100watts a channel at 4ohms as i would probably get a sundown 4 channel amp at 100watts a channel. Any recommendations? I dont know what the stock altis have wattage wise, i know fronts are 6.5 comps, rear doors are midbass woofers im assuming, 6.5"? and rears are 6x9's which i would change to accomodate small woofers to handle the lows since the rear doors would have a comp set of their own.
Speak yee minds!!!!!!
edit:am i missing something, i have a 2.5s with stock audio, i believe i still have speakers in the rear door? is that bose only or no?
Edit:Found out, there is no speaker in the rear door but they still have the grills and stuff which is awesome since it willmaking adding anything alot easier!Modified by SuBXeRo at 12:37 AM 9/22/2009

i just checked the field service manual, and you're correct, the Sedan has speakers in the rear door, but does NOT have the extra tweeters up near the 6x9 like the coupe BOSE system does... this allows them both to only have 9 speakersSuBXeRo wrote:I can confirm that the bose system in the 4 door does have speakers in the rear doors because my bosses wife's car has it and i was in it today, so the bose system does in fact have speakers in the rear door.
Aside from that, I was just curious to see what people were doing with their rear decks in a case like this, keeping woofers for the lows or going full range and how each would affect someone in the rear seat.
Optimally, subs in the trunk work out well because they are very omnidirectional compared to woofers in a rear deck where the people in the backseat would hear this very clearly since its aimed right at them.
It figures MB Quart would go to crap after being bought by Rockford. I had a set of their 6.5" comps from '93 and they were the best door mid I have ever owned. Far better than the JL XR650-CSI's I had in my Maxima (and the Alpine SPX-177a's that I installed in another car).rjdmmfl1 wrote:

That rumor is all over the internet, but Maxxsonics is the owner of MB Quart now, not Rockford... and yes, they use to be great, but now, they are crap!audtatious wrote:

What a shame....
Wonderful.....rjdmmfl1 wrote:

I'm not even old enough to fullt appreciate that setup.. but I got into the car audio world around '98, and got serious about 5 years ago... I heard nothing but rave reviews about the old MB Quart stuff, and last year, I literally grabbed the last set of German made stiuff that my audio company still had in inventory... they got the new stuff in, and were serverly disappointed.. and every prmium audio shop taht I know of here in San Diego/la Jolla no longer carries MB Quart.... sad to see such a great business like that tank, but hey... everything changes I guessaudtatious wrote:

I still have some of the "good" gear. The 6.5" woofers from '93 are dead and gone but I still have a set of the neo tweeters, HX25 tweeters and 2-way MusicComp Xovers.
Back in the day, a stereo trifecta consisted of MB Quart mids/tweets, JL subs and PPI amps.
Have you given any thought to the audison bitone???? if you haven't you should definitely check it out... it is the single best DSP/EQ/Xover unit out there right now...audtatious wrote:Old Quart stuff was solid. My 6.5" mids were in great shape when I pulled them but they sat around in a humid garage for a few years and one of them was having problems when I tried to use them again. Not sure if humidity had much to do with it but they were working fine when pulled.
I've used a lot of gear over the years including the original Orion 15's from the late 80's to numerous original MTX Terminators to RF seperates (when RF sold true mid/mid-bass high-end drivers....I had two 5.25" mid-bass in each door at one time) to USAmps hi-current (alternative to Orion HCCA's). Even ran a couple of Adcom amps that were 1/4-ohm stable and would work at a dead short.
My favorite setup consisted of a Rockford PA1-HD pre-amp, AudioControl 4xs Xover, a/d/s PH15 amp pushing the MB Quart separates and mixture of RF 5.25" midbass w/ Quart tweeters in the rear, PPI A600 amp pushing a single JL Audio 12w6. The below pic shows the trunk setup before I added the PH15 and eventually a Carver/KLW Phantom Bass processor (similar to the AudioControl Epicenter)
You know, I've kinda gotten tired of messing with audio at this point. Everything is sitting around on shelves or in boxes right now and I have no plans to upgrade the factory systems in the G's.rjdmmfl1 wrote:

I just sold my Audio Control DQXS and bought this... best single car audio investment I've made to date!
... i'm oh so sure I'll get there soon... it'll be nice to one dy just hve a regular setup and not mess with all of this extra crap...audtatious wrote:

Old age sux. I used to have such frustrating fun messing with car audio.
the Bose in the G37 is definitely much better than the setup in the A/C... but it still falls a bit short compared to the Mark Levinson... just for sh*ts and giggles, you should go take an sc 430 for a test drive, and throw in an audiophile / vocal cd and listen... unreal sound!audtatious wrote:I actually enjoy the new factory setup in the G's
rjdmmfl1 wrote:OOOKaaay, let me explain one more time. The Nissan Altima with BOSE has nine speakers (both sedan and coupe) 2 x 6.5" front midbass, 3 x 3.5" tweeters/midrange speakjers in the dash, 2x 6x9" midbass woofers in the rear deck, and 2 x 3.5" tweeters in the rear deck.
For proper imaging, having speakers in the rear doors is not necessary. People confuse LOUD with sound quality.. the two are NOt interchangable... the factory rear deck speakers are important because they are the car's source of midbass.... but in a properly tuned system, the rear speakers are not really necessary... just used for rear fill... so components in the rear deck, while they could work, are overkill for a properly tuned system
