I was really interested in getting a bra for my black j30. but I know that since the j30 was not at all a mass produced car (like say a jetta or civic) any bra that I bought would be taking a chance. Especially since most sites do not let you see the bra before you buy. Anyone have experiance with buying a bra from a site without pics? I saw one on DriverFX for like 80, is this a bad idea? Thanks.

I would not recommend getting a bra for any car. FIrst reason...it's so 80's. Second, bras will actually ruin your paint unless you are religious about taking it off after every rain storm and humid day to let it dry, and cleaning and waxing under the bra every week. If you get some dirt or sand under the bra, it acts like a fine sandpaper and scratches the hell out of your hood. As for the moisture, if any gets trapped under the bra and if the car sits in the sun for an extended period of time, the moisture basically cooks the paint and discolors it.

If you really want some protection against rock chips and stuff like that the 3M clear bra is very good. It costs about $500 but it will last for 4-7 years depending on how you take care of it. A lot of new car dealers are offering this as an option due to the water based paints that they are using now.http://www.mishield.com/

If you live in an area with lots of rocks but little rain it can be a good choice.

Washington DC has lots of little rocks due to the high truck traffic through the Mid Atlantic region...but that region also has it's fair share of precipitation.

I still say Clearbra it.

Ok, someone has to say it ....

Silicone bushings might give her the lift you're after :D

I think a clearbra is a much better idea on a new or freshly painted car. At the age of his Q, I'd go Knight Ridder style 80's as well. Just keep it clean.

Did you ever get that bra for your J? I am also considering one for my J30 and was wondering what your experience was.

And before anyone talks again about the clear ones, I am looking into a black one because I want to cover up the rock dings that are already there.

There's a new kind of bra available, where they install a clear layer of some material on your hood and nose. You get all the advantages of a bra minus the maintenance and Miami Vice tackiness (sorry, I hate most 80s things).

If I ever get the nose repainted on my Q, that's what I'd like to do. I have plenty of rock chips, somewhat concealed with Turtle Wax Color Cure (comes with the colored lipstick applicator), but up close you can still see spots.
