I was looking on the australian skyline forum, and came across a thread mentioning the tuners down there use a liquid called Hard Block? They pour 1/4 of it into the block for street use, and 1/2 for drag use only. It supposedly soldifies and strenghtens the block! Anyone here in the states here of this or have done this?

Have I heard of the concept? Yes.. Do I know people who have done it? Yes.. Would I do it? Not a chance..Think about the concept......Then ask yourself why would I need that? What is my intended uesage? Unless you build a dedicated drag car (track ONLY) or just want to ppl to think you "are a baller" or how "hard core" your ride is don't waste your money or a perfectly good engine. You would more that likely never build a motor that would require the use of a block filler.

well i was just wondering, cause leave it to the Australians to do something crazy with the skylines. I just wondered if anyone has done here in the states, and what something like that would cost, crap if it strengthens the block as much as mentioned, i wouldnt mind pay a chunk of change to do it.

How does it go about "solidifying" the block? Does it fill in voids in the coolant passages to thicken them and add "strength"? I'm confused once again.

Thats what it sounds like to me, I know hardcore drag racers that run either meth or alcohal do it.. I forget which one. They fill the coolant passages with this cement like compound makes the block stronger.

Theres no need to do it man, I doubt your making 1500hp plus.

why do you need a stronger block?

you arent making 1000hp. its an IRON BLOCK. the RB blocks arent notorious for being weak.

i just dont see why you want to do this.

A lot of domestic V8 guys do it.Because of the amount of Torque they produce, the engine block starts to flex.

Its a waste of time, cooling capacity and weight for RB's.

Maybe kjlindgr needs this stuff if it truly acts the way it is supposed to. When he was on the dyno pushing about 1000hp he blew a freeze plug out of the block.

The terms ppl use are 1/4 fill, 1/2 fill, and 3/4 fill. They are pertaining to the amount of the substance they pour into the water passages to fill them, not just narrow them; actually "block them" hence "hard block". As was mentioned unless you want to run about 1/3 or more less coolant, don't bother.

Dairus did kjindgr ever figure out what the problem was???I thought he was pressurizing the block.I never would of thought of block distortion..

He didn't know. He had a new one popped back in there and everything was fine. I am betting there was some block deformation going on at that point. Obviously the cooling system is under about 20psi of pressure, so when the plug went, it looked like something catastrophic happened when steam poured out of it.

Saying an engine block will 'flex' is an extreme generalization of the forces it is subjected to, internally and externally. So general that the word can't even be used if you want to be technical, which it sounds like we are approaching here lol.
