anyone hear of transmission,rearend axle probs?

I keep getting told by my step dad who has been building hot rod's for the past 20 years. you know 454 big block and all that old school big block crap. well he also does transmissions and keeps telling me that the 240sx trannie and rear end can't handle lot's of HP like above 300hp. frankly i don't belive him since i never see anyone asking about this problem. he's one of them ignorent american car ppl. everyday i hear why don't u drop in a sb350 instead of a sr20det son.well i'm asking does anyone know of trannie or rear end/axle problems on 180sx,200sx, or 240sx?

Your transmission and rear should hold up to 400 ft/lbs at least...

It seems the weak point of the transmission is the input shaft. If you manage to grab traction with some slicks and have built boost off the line, it WILL break. Rick showed us that That rear end is sturdy though, I think the biggest decider of transmission longevity is how you drive it. You can't expect it to take flat foot shifts at 7krpms all day and last If you baby it a bit and it's on the street/street tires I dont see why it can't hold up for a long time at 400hp or so. does anyone make a bigger stronger input shaft? or a cryro treated or something like that so it can handle the shock?or maybe i should just launch at a lower rpm and gas it through the rest of the gears? to save the tranie. thanks for your help guys

hello, i have a similar problem. when i shift unsmoothly or let off the gas suddenly when going slow i get this loud thumping sound from the back of my car. i have no idea what could be wrong. and yesterday i went to a nissan dealership to get an alignment. when they were done they gave me a sheet with other problems that they found on my car and among them was "has looseness in rear end". does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? also what do i need to fix it? Thanx
