I tinted my factory qx4 tails but I did them much to dark, I get nagged by cops all the time. Im thinking of buying these lights and repainting the lenses with just not as many layers.

Im curious if these lights have any texture at all to them, my factory lights have little grooves around the outside and some kinda dip on the bottom i believe, would these be COMPLETELY smooth?? Id like to clear coat and wetsand this time I think so Id like a completely flat surface

Heres the link anyways

I think Pwnin O'brien has those on his pathy.
They should be fine on a Qx4.

I'll be honest, I really like how they look, however I think they will only look good on the chrome silver color (like mine) since the outer perimeter of the tails is painted in the same color. Also, plan on buying red LED bulbs as the red colored bulbs fade quickly into a light pink then into white. Here they are on my Pathy...

Do you guys know what type bulbs the rear lights use in terms of the parking/brake lights. i ordered red LED bulbs for them but when i got them they were too big to fit into the housing even though it had stated that it would fit a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder.

So to avoid this mistake again because where i live they do not sell any LED bulbs so i have to order them i would like to know the specific bulb type.

Because like Pwnin' said - the tinted red bulbs do go from red - pink - white in about 1 month.

Thanks

Pwning, I may have asked you this before, but do your rear reflectors work? Or are they just painted silver?

Because in all of North America, and most other countries worldwide, all vehicles must have red retroreflectors on the back. This would seem to be especially important if you have clear tail lights -- because it seems that unless your tail lights / brake lights are on, there's no red *anywhere* on the back of your Pathy. I'm not trying to get on your back, I'm (a) curious if there was a special paint that still kept the red reflectors working somehow (unlikely, but would be awesome), and (b) just throwing information out at CanuckQX4.

The rear relectors are just that, reflectors. There is no bulb in them, I tinted my reflectors to match my tails and I have not had any problems with them.

I dont have any straight on pics, but you can kinda see them in the corner of this pic. They match the tail tint pretty well imo

Yeah, that's the law in most states (if not all) but I haven't had any problems and I passed the stringent NJ state inspection not long ago. They do reflect some light, but it's very little. Sometimes you can see through the tinting. Remember when I had my tails tinted the same color as my car? The guy also did the reflectors, but in a darker tint.

Well, no, they're not required to be lit, but retroreflectors still serve a purpose. If you're parked somewhere, say on the side of a road, cars can see you easily from a distance. If your taillights fail when you're driving (or if you forget to turn them on), cars can still easily see you from a distance. If cops are after you, you can't just turn off your tail lights and "disappear".
Ruth: Look, Marge, there's no reason for you to get dragged into this. Once we lose the cops, I'll let you out.
Marge: Well, I don't think they'll be that easy to lose. These are professional lawmen, and --
(Ruth turns the car's lights off)
Wiggum: Oh my God! It just disappeared. It's a ghost-car! (slams on the brakes) There are ghost-cars all over these highways, you know.
Homer: (timid) Hold me.
Wiggum: (conciliatory) Only if you hold me.
:chuckle:

But seriously, drive enough unlit country roads at night during a new moon -- especially when there's fog and you're forced to only use low beams -- and you'll see what I mean.

In the pic I posted, the wd next to me has NO reflectors and my tinted tails reflect more than his stock tails. Just because my reflectors are tinted does NOT mean that they are solid black they do infact still reflect light. There are tons of cars now a days that dont have reflectors in the back and come stock like that. Just like how many high end imports like Mercedes, BMW, and Infiniti dont come with front license plate holders, its a law to have a front plate but wether or not its enforced is to be argued.

And I do drive alot of country roads here, almost daily. I go to school in a rural town with many many hundreds of miles of pretty much single lane dirt roads around, which is part of the reason why I have a roof light setup :bigthumb:

The best tails imo are lightly smoked stock tails. All aftermarket tails look cheap to me.

Heres a decent comparison between stock and my tinted, as you can see its not BLACK but truly smoked. The reverse lights are still really bright and the turn signal orange. The color can change based off of the light that shows on it like the first pic thats with a good camera up close but its how they look in real life.

I already have factory Qx4 smoked tails, I dont like how the light output is, I dont like how the rear tails look in the dark, not enough output and I dont like how its a square lit by a halogen bulb. I was hoping to get something with LED's even

I may end up modding a set, but the DIY led's involve way to much little solderring and resistors that I dont know anything about

I dont like how all the aftermarket tails have "bubbles" of plastic for the lights in the housing and arent smooth on the outside..

You have got to get that towing hitch off if you're going to leave the rear bumper off. It completely defeats the purpose of having the rear bumper removed.

Its back on now, I had a bit of surface rust the last time it was off, so I took it off again and painted it with rust tough primer to make sure it stays alright. A tube bumper is is the works, but my sfd install is coming up before that.
