I have been going back and forth on buying a 300zx T/T for a while now. After all is said and done, it;s going to be to much money. My new plan, I want to try and find a 240SX (94-95) that has high miles, (100,000), but in great condition. Buy it, pull the motor and swap in an SR20. My question is as follows. Can someone please reccomend a setup that would have the following.

-I want the car to be a minimum of 275hp AT THE WHEELS.

-The car has to be as reliable as possible, it will be my daily driver.

-How much hp and boost can the stock internals handle before reliability becomes a problem.

-The exhasut should be the quietest one on the market.

-I am not changing the internals.

-I know i will need to go with a bigger turbo, which one. It should spool quick, don't like turbo lag.

-Which engine should I go with, red top , black, s15 . etc

My budget will probably be around 5- 6,000 for mods including the swap. ...So that being said, thanks for any comments or suggestions. I know Honda's, and DSM's very well, but this will be my first project with a 240.

For your price range your looking at a Red Top or S13 Blacktop.

Stock internals should be replaced once your close to the 400hp region.

Greddy makes a pretty quiet exhaust. My Blitz Nur Spec R is loud when the silencer is out. But when the silencer is in you can barely hear it.

I am not a turbo wizard by any means and some other guys have probably better ideas but I would say get a S15 T28 BB turbo that should get you around 275 at high boost. Also you will need bigger injectors when you get a bigger turbo.

I spent about 5500+ on my swap when I first did it. You will need to be very thrifty to get 275 at the wheels for under 6 grand.

PS only S13 convertables were in 1994 years. 1995 they started S14s. So which one are you looking at? Also are you doing the swap yourself. If you aren't then there is no way you will get 275 rwhp for under 6 grand.

For what power you're looking for look at this turbo Big 28

Here's somebody who has it although i'm not sure if they're a member here or not:

S13 SR, get phase2 or HT to do the wiring, upgraded headgasket is all i would do internally. FMIC, turn the boost to 18psi when needed and you'll have around 280rwhp. Of course the injectors are a good idea but then you need a way to manage the fuel =$$$.

PS, A Bailey is a mod at 240SXforums.com

You don't have enough money for a reliable swap.

Drop the idea until you have saved up some more money.

Why S14 sr? any SR would work, why not go with the cheaper, S13

You are only running 14 pounds of boost, what makes you think he could get 45 more?

bigger turbo and VTC

My friend dyno'd his s14 at 15lbs stock injectors with a s15 t28 with and w/o VTC

with 269hp 275lb/ftw/o 235hp 250(?)lb/ft

The least amount of mods you have the more reliable your car is. I love my s13 SR but if I could do it again I would pay more for a newer engine and more hp upfront.

A good complete swap set up and istall is gonna cost you at least 4-5 grand. That's professionally installed and maximum reliability! Some shops even offer warranties which is a MUST when you just spent 4 grand on something that's VERY "ify". Just make sure you don't "scrimp" on parts or labor, but make sure you're not being taken for a ride either. <<<Tom>>>

You dont need the S14 motor. Besides, you tell him to get an S14 but then you tell him to toss the S14 T28 for a S15 T28, whats the point. Could just get a redtop with an S15 T28, 480cc S15 injectors and something to tune the injectors.

You save money and if you manage to blow up the engine, its cheaper and easier to get another redtop block.
