The downpipe on my 450hp Buick GN was 3" and split to 2 2 1/2" pipes. Come on, you're telling me that a stock N/A KA needs 3"??? Backpressure plays a major role in making HP and Torque on an N/A car. This N1 is too loud. It's much louder than my GN was, I wouldnt mind it being so loud if it had the HP to back it up!! I need a nice, deep, mellow exhaust.
Exactly. I'm so sick of the whole "bigger is better" rationale, not just in exhaust selection but in everything (wheels, turbos, brakes, etc, etc). VERY few people need a full 3" exhaust, least of all a naturally aspirated car. 3" would cause a significant decrease in torque. When I was naturally aspirated I searched to find the smallest diameter pre-fabbed cat-back exhaust because the market was filled with systems that are TOO big for a naturally aspirated 2.4 liter (btw, I had a hotshot header and a CAI as well)...So to answer your question, I was running (and still am, well, sort of) a super medallion 60 mm stainless steel exhaust on my naturally aspirated car. It was not unbearably loud by any means, nor was it obnoxious in the least. At idle and coasting it was very quiet, and it made an awesome induction note when accelerating. I'd definitely recommend it for your n/a application....very nice sound, good gains, no noticeable loss in torque, not too loud at all. And there's no doubt it's plenty big, because it's working quite well with my KA-T now at 9 psi (2.5" downpipe, no cat, resonator cut out). BTW, my car is A LOT quieter now that it's turbocharged...those turbos really quiet things down
