Ok, this is not something a credit agency is at all involved in. This is purely a debt collection. As someone who has a little experience on their side of things, you need to do the following:

1. check to see if your wife, child, etc. established any debt in YOUR name or if they established the debt in their name. You may be responsible for their debt even though you didn't sign anything for it.2. if you find out that this really is a mistake, you need to call and verify the that you are the actual person via birthdate, SSN, etc.

if it's a mistake and they figure it out with your help then problem solved. if this is your problem then they should be able to work something out with you. the key is to take care of this NOW. if you wait they can garnish your wages, etc.

good luck

Also, AZ, this may be better served being in the general section or the showroom area.

no biggie, just wanna make sure more people can see something like this so we can get more help.

also, remember that it's not a credit agency thing, it's a COLLECTION agency thing.

Hey guys,

I'm here. I didn't realize that I hit the do not e-mail thing I guess. I will try and fix that. You can e-mail me at [email protected].

I agree that this is a collection agency not a bureau. The best thing you can do is try and verify the validity of the account they are trying to collect on. If you determine it is inaccurate you should be able to dispute the validity with the collection agency. Make them prove it is yours. It might not hurt to accompany your dispute with a letter from your attorney.

If the debt is truly yours then I am afraid you may not have many options except to pay it. They do not have to accept your settlement offer. SOme do some don't. They can refuse and hold you to the full amount.

If this is an old debt that whatever company is trying to collect on then they likely sold the account to another collection agency for a premium. That collection agency then adds their fees and tries to collect it and so on and so forth. If this is a really old account that was in collection and could not be collected on and was written-off then that is most assuredly the case here.

Depends on you situation. Like I say if it is accurate then not much you can do. Either pay it off or continue to have them harrass you. Although after a certain point I think you can get them for telephone harrassment or something but that is a legal question and I have no idea.

Good luck B
