Is it the partnership with Chrysler (2010-11 Ram)? Is it money? Is it to try and help the big 3 (see above)? Is it the lack of interest at Detroit (GT-R included) from last year? Everything I read so far seems cryptic with no real explanation or idea why they aren't in Detroit. I guess they will be Chicago but I don't get the decision to stay out of Detroit. I understand there is an expense, but wouldn't the Detroit/Windsor area dealers want to get their stuff out to see, even if just the new Z? NNA asked the Michigan/Ontario dealers to abstain form the show. Anyone have some insight?

First off, I'm assuming you mean NAIAS (North American International Auto Show). If you hadn't said Detroit, I was going to say wth are you talking about, lol.

As for the reason, I'm not sure... but my guess would be either they are trying to cut costs, which really doesn't make sense (NAIAS is the largest auto show in the country) OR they are purposefully blacklisting Detroit for some reason. If Nissan doesn't make an appearance at the NYIAS in late March, I'd start to get scared.

FYI - In addition to Nissan.... Ferrari, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Rolls-Royce and Suzuki have also pulled out of the 2009 NAIAS.

Yes North American International Auto Show. They said they will be in Chicago but they plain out ditched the Detroit show and asked the dealers to do the same, Kia took their spot.

Nissan wrote:"Nissan continuously evaluates all of its core marketing activities to ensure we are effectively reaching our target audiences, while at the same time, maximizing our investments. Based on the fact that we have no major new products to show at the 2009 Detroit and Chicago auto shows as well as the current economic conditions which will impact the shows' marketing effectiveness, we have decided to cancel our involvement and participation in the 2009 North American International Auto Show and the Chicago Auto Show."
they later changed their mind about chicago though. they already showed off their new goods at LA autoshow and with michigan economy, attendance will be bleak. i even had free tickets to the show and didn't bother going.

The reason for Nissan not attending the Detroit auto show is that with the slowing US economy and the decline in available marketing dollars, Nissan (as well as a lot of other major manufacturers) chose against attending the event.

In contrast, manufacturers are attending the Canadian auto shows as the Canadian economy is currently perceived to be in a better state (as far as disposable income) and it is seen as a better (and mind you cheaper) investment. Being mindful of that however, the effort being put in to attend these shows is still limited.

Hope this helps resolve the issue.
