Anyone know how to use this thing? I read the instructions but it's still a bit complicated. For example, what is the zero setting for? Shouldn't this not provide any resistance at all (0 x n = 0)?

Basically the handle screws in and out. I think you have to pull the handle back to free it. Ther e should be a graduated setting ring on the handle. Align the marks with the numbers on the body to get the torque value. Each full revolution increases the torque by maybe 15 ft-lbs, depending on the wrench. So if you line up the zero on the ring with 60 on the body, and then rotate another 1/3 of a turn, you would be at 65 ft-lbs. I think there's a spring in there, so the higher the torque setting, the more running resistance you will feel.

thanks for the response! Mine is sort of like that. I was going to take a photo but it comes out too blurry. Mine has a rotatable ring with numbers on it from 0, .5, 1, 1.5... 4.5. Then along the shaft there is like a ruler increasing in ft/lbs by tens I think. It's reallr messed up I'd have to give a diagram.

Turn the handle until the top edge of the ring lines up with the first hatch on the ruler, and line up the zero on the ring with the centerline of the ruler. Whatever value is given to the first hatch is the torque setting (this is the lowest value of the torque range). If you turn the ring "one ring hatch" then you just increased the torque by some constant multiple of .5.

How many foot-lbs does the ring go up the shaft for each complete 360 degree turn?

If one turn increases the wrench by 15 foot-lbs, and there are 10 hatches on the ring, then each hatch increases the torque by 1.5 foot-lbs.

Maybe you have to pull the ring back to unlock the handle to rotate it, not the handle itself.

I also have a Husky torque wrench. The wrench should have a black handle with a silver ring. To turn the handle you have to pull the ring down. To use the wrench an example should help. Lets say you need to set the wrench to 57 ft-lbs. First pull the ring down and turn the black handle so that the tip of the black handle lines up with the 55 ft-lb marking on the shinny wrench shaft. You should also see that the white 0 (which is the ft-lbs mark) lines up to the line along the wrench shaft. The 0 tells you that you are at 55 ft-lbs. The markings on the black handle are just fine tuning in increments of .5 ft-lbs. To get to 57 ft-lbs turn the black handle so that the white number 2 on the black handle lines up to the line along the wrench shaft. Now when you turn the black handle it should move up the shaft and not down to get to 57 ft-lbs.

I'm not saying anything new here, I'm just re-hashing what DAEDALUS said and applying it to the wrench we both bought.

Your markings on your shaft might be different because you have a different wrench but the same concepts apply to your wrench just substitue your markings.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks everyone for your replies. The instructions that came with it were crap. Thanks for coming through DAEDALUS and red_240sx
