I could really use a bike rack for my versa. I know one of the guys on the site has a roof rack, but does anyone have a hatch rack?

I am just not sure how strong the top part of the hatch is. If you put a few bmxs on it you might have as much as 50 lbs hanging on the rack plus the weight of the rack.

A rear mounted rack is much cheaper than a roof rack and I can do the rear installation myself (pretty basic) but a roof rack install? Forget it.

Check out this link: http://www.bikerackshops.com/HRE3.html Something along the lines of the rack in the link.

I've been looking into this myself. Do a Google search for Saris Bones 3. I think you'll like it.

I have the Saris Bones (which is bar far the best, IMHO)

It comes in a 2 or 3 bike setup...

I've had mine for almost 6 years and it's still going strong... it goes on most vehicles (I've had it on a several cars including the Camel)

It's more expensive, but it'll likely last longer and is also more versatile... the bars adjust independently for bikes with a sloped support bar.

I have a Rhode Gear rack. It's gotten a lotta use over the years but since we bought the Versa, it's only been on once. My wife is recovering from hand/wrist surgery and won't be able to ride this year so my bike fits inside the Versa instead of hanging on the outside. Next year we'll hopefully go back to using the rack for two bikes.

I never thought of that. I bet it does help a lot. I haven't bought one yet, but that's the one I'm getting when I do get arournd to it.

The Saris rack looks great, thanks for the recommend (using it as a noun).

Kimber: This rack mounts up to the hatch really well? No damage, rubbing, scraping, or bending of the hatch edges?

What kind of bikes do all of you guys ride?

I have my dad's old Huffy bike with fenders, and speedometer. It hadn't been used in so long that there was a baby seat still on the back and I know that my 22 year old sister was the last of my siblings to probably ride in it. I had to do some work to make it usable (the tires dried out and were stuck to the rims).

But my two awesome bikes are my custom built bmxs (I want to sell the first one of them)

Sorry for having to link them, I haven't figured out how to post pics yet on this site.

I have a Dean MTB. A Marin MTB frame that I've converted to a cyclo-cross bike. Two Trek 520's (1983 & 1987 models), a Stowe, a Nishiki, a Quartro Assi and a custom frame I designed and had built. It's a nice rounded collection.

I just have a Wal-Mart special. It's an all-aluminum Mongoose mountain bike that I paid something like $130 for. It suits my purposes just fine. My wife's and son's bikes are very similar.

The Saris rests the weight of the bikes on the bumper with it's bottom feet (but the hatch is still able to open, with and w/o bike). No rubbing or paint damage.

I ride a Columbia Clipper IV ... very heavy bike with nice fenders...
