I'm not exactly sure if this is the problem. My wife has been driving my car for a few weeks now. She said that it has stalled while driving on the highway several times. She pulls over, restarts and it's fine. The fuel pump is the only thing that I can think of. I know that I noticed a few weeks ago whe I last drove it that it hesitated when I started it. I tried is a few more times and if I turn the key and wait a second or two before I cranked it, it seemed to fire right up. With 140k, it's probably time for a new one.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there with an extra or one from a junk, PLEASE let me know. I forgot to mention, she is driving my car because her van transmission went out again. I got stuck with the 88 civic again.

thanksrobert

Geez, Robert, after all that you have been through, I really don't think you want to take a chance on a used fuel pump, do you? Call Joe at http://www.infinitipartsusa.com. I am sure you have read the posts about the importance of the sock on the intake and cleaning the tank to preserve the new pump's life.

Are you hearing the pump from inside the car before you start it?

Feels like deja vu all over again. Had the same problem you're having. Turned out to be a combination of bad fuel pump and the pump controller. I know Sop aka Sopdadope has a few of these spare parts around. Better ask him before he leaves the country.

We ordered 4 fuel pumps so far this week for replacement, it always happens after the change over to Summer gas formula and the warm weather. All 4 were lucky the controllers are still functioning.

By the way we now have 4 - J30 in for transmission replacement......lack of maintenance and miles plus 2 more Q with blown motors [7 in all].........amazing the abuse the engines take before failure.

hahaha...i don't know why i even considered a used pump from what i read in the older postings...just got off the phone with scottsdale...ordered a new pump, sock, and filter. I searched the older postings and found some great tips. Thanks Q45Tech. I'm just praying that the control module isn't bad too. I'm going to go through the test procedures in the service manual later tonight.

I drove to Wendle Infiniti (in a 1988 Chevy Cavalier) and picked up a pump for $315. Controller that got fried was free from a junk yard that didnt know what the heck it was.

Got a new fuel filter too.

After $150 for labor, I was back on the road again.

BE SURE TO CLEAN OUT THE FUEL TANK TOO! My new pump is buzzing like the old one did before it failed, but much much quieter than before. Chevron Fuel System Treatment seems to help significantly.
