Getting ready to tune up my new 240sx for the firfst time. I don't have a Chilton's so I was hoping someone could help me by answering the following questions...

what gap should the spark plugs be set to?

how many quarts of oil should I put in after getting rid of the old?

what timing(s) should it be set to?

I'm having a friend do it because I know little about cars so if there's anything I'm forgetting or should know please clue me in.

I bought a new air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, pcv valve, distributor cap and rotor. Is there anything I've overlooked?

Thanks -Glyph

use 4 quarts for the KA engines. and i would buy the 4 point platinum plugs, you dont have to worry about gaping. if you're going all out, maybe you should get new spark plug wires too.

You can download the factory service manual for a s13. I glanced it for a sec - it has a maintenance section.

Thanks guys, especially for that link to the service manual. I'm sure that'll help.

Glyph... Your car is B-E-A-Utiful!

So clean, so glossy, rims you could eat off of. Very nice!

http://carfiche.com/manuals020/cars/thats another site you can use for FSM downloads... FSM has all the information you seek. If you prefer a paper alternative just buy one off ebay, skip the chiltons/haynes they really don't help that much.

there were 2 on ebay last time I checked, no one has scanned one yet. If I ever get my hands on one I plan on scanning it for posterity.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yeah the wheels are chrome. I couldn't tell you if they're se wheels or not. I'm pretty sure they're not after market. Yeah, the car's pretty clean. One owner (female) since it rolled off the showroom floor . I was stoked to get it for $2200. Unfortunately, I'm having a few mechanical issues at the moment. It seems to be firing on only 3 cylinders and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Must be a bad valve or something. At idle the whole engine and car shakes like you wouldn't believe.

yeah thats what mine did when I bought it... it was a cracked head though. I could tell from the rusty splash marks under the hood that the radiator had been leaking, probably didnt catch in it time, let it overheat, eventually the head cracked. a misfire is something you should fix asap cause on my car, both motor mounts and the transmissioin mount were all broken in two from the vibration.and yes those are chromed 91+ s13 alloys
