i buying a carbon hood, whats better, seibon or VIS, does anyone actually have one and have anything to say good or bad? Also, do I really need hood pins if it has an oem latch? I hear rumors of them flying open, is it bull****? anyone?

the rumors are true in most cases, the carbon fiber hood being extremely lighter than the stock hood, unless fitment is perfect (and even in some cases when it is perfect) is likely to fly up. because when you get on the highway and get going the air goes underneath your hood and itll flop right open (happened on this kid I know's mustang). hood pins are ALWAYS a good safety measure.

Seibon is "suppose" to be better than VIS. Some have complained about the fitment of VIS... I think it's just their chassis is f'ed or they dont' know what they are doing...

I've had 2 VIS hoods, one usdm s13, one silvia s13. Both fit pretty damn good, took about 15 minutes of playing around w/ position for it to seat right for the most part. My friend has a Seibon hood. Quality wise, I would say they are very similar. Neither have perfect weave patterns (small not that noticeable ripple in all 3 hoods).

The fitment of all 3 were very good w/ some minor modification to the hood latch for the 240 taht you have to do for basically all installs (you have to bend a lil piece of the bracket, it's apparent what's hitting when you install it).

VIS's newest hoods have a "thicker"/bigger cf weave pattern that looks pretty pimp, imho.

And yes, please use hood pins. Some cars have gotten away w/ it (for ex my friends integ), but they are designed differently (integ hood sits behind the bumper, 240 hood sits on top the bumper). usdm popup for sure will starting wiggling and wailing once you get on the hwy.

Sure hood pins may "look" ugly, but you'll cry once you crack ur windshield, break ur hood, and possibly crash your car if the hood is blocking your vision... 20-50 dollars for hoodpins don't sound so bad now huh?

It's not hard to install hood pins, just takes time, a quick google search should return the desired results. I'll probably post up a DIY on hood pins (got some nice gangsta ones) soon when I do my pins on the new hood.

thanx for the input guys, my main concern w/ fit is by the headlights, they both have a similiar price and i'm going for oem style so I want to see who's fit is closer. Anyone have pics?I wonder how kouzenki gets around without pins?I actually had my hood fly open on my first 240, first time it snowed after I bought the car, Driving down the highway, boom, flys open, cracked windshield f'd hood up but I was able to pound it back to shape and never had a problem , she had 225k on her when i sold it, good old sohc, yeah, dont need that to happen again.
