hi, i got 3M installed and was wondering if gaps (3/16") are acceptable or just a shoddy job. also my mirror has a huge section without protection. and the line from the hood does not meet up with the fender on the right side.

excuse the crappy pictures from my very old camera. thanks for your help.

on the hood

the mirrors are not completely covered

the line from the hood does not meet up with the fender

It is real hard for me to tell by those pics. I would say that anything would look better than rock chips.

Make sure you are very careful when you wax so you don't have any residue on the edges of the film. That would magnify anything that you thought was an imperfection.

yes this is better than getting rock chips, however, for $750 i expect a great job, meaning almost everything is covered.

I have it on my car. Yes there are gaps. And the mirrors are the worse. So yes that is normal

i had the installer re-do the hood and mirrors. they installed the mirrors with a one-piece and im happier (though the corner is peeling a little, but ill cut the piece off rather than waste another half day there)

If your edges on the hood and fender do not wrap around the edges then you have a generic and poor job. There should never be a gap around those areas and everything should fit nice and tight.

yes i agree. too bad i wasnt more thorough in researching a reputable shop. i have bubbling on the edge of my side mirror now, but will wait a week to see if the 'wrinkles' on the bumper disappear before i make a fourth visit to the installer.

I have never seen a clear bra go on the whole hood! All around here (sand & rocks all the fookin' time...I mean CO.) I have only ever seen them go on the first 20-25% of the front of the hood (and front sections). That place needs to put on a class for all installers of the clearbra products. I have it on mine, and about 2 inches above where it stops on the hood is a PERFECT blemish from a dam* rock!

It's a wonder they didn't put the whole car in that protective covering....except for pic #92 I was very impressed for the BMW...it had some bubbles already forming on the top of the pic. I thought is was a reflection, but it's bubbles. Do it ALL OVER! J/K!

That is quite the impressive install, I must say...

I e-mailed 3m about putting it on scratch shield paint.

Thank you for contacting 3M.

I do not have any direct experience with the Infiniti Scratch Shield Paint. However, I would be cautious covering this with a film. The self healingproperties of the clear coat indicate that it is not cross-linked/cured andmay have outgassing as the clear coat ages. This outgassing could result inbubbles trapped beneath the clear coat and Paint Protection Film.
