I started my motor, finally, and the engine ran fine, other than a clacking sound coming from the front of the motor. after fearing for the worst, i removed the front timing covers and checked the cam timing, and i'm good on that account. I then put the top cover back on, as well as the CAS and the crank pulley(no belts) and started it . The result was no noise. Thinking i was ok, i put he lower timing cover back on and started it. Still no noise. Hook up the alt/waterpump belt, start it, its making noise.

I put a brand new Nissan Pulsar DE waterpump on back in feb and finally got around to installing the motor the other day. When turning the shaft by hand, there's no reisistance at any point, so i can't imagine there being anything lodged behind it. And no, i'm not using a fan w/ clutch on the end of the water pump.

Anyone have any tips or thoughts before i remove the water pump for inspection?

thanksChris

and just b/c

One of the pulleys rubbing against the timing belt cover maybe?

Mine does the same thing when I start it up, but then it goes away once I gets warmed up. I can't figure it out. I'm going to replace it with an ET one when I pull the motor next week to replace the rings and see how that goes.

i just let it run for a little while longer and it did go away, but then it came back after a few minutes

I toasted my pump the other day but it was my fault. Blew up an old radiator hose and the pump ran with low coolent for under 5mins and was toast. Thats kind of weak considering my friends old KA pump lasted over 10mins with low coolent until he cought the problem.

As for making noise, I had no problems till I killed the pump and it made a **** load of noise.

mine works fine... I never hear any noises coming from my water pump:) but the clearance between the pulley and the timing cover is really close, so maybe they're hitting together? I dunno

Quote »Dee still have that extra one in your closet?[/quote] Yeah Sean, it still here. That (IMHO) is just too cheap of a part to try and make a buck off of. It's yours as well as I have no use for it...............
