My G35 coupe has a bunch of scratches on the doors and I'm about to get a paint job (insurance is taking care of it).

How legit is the paint job? I have a rare color (Athens Blue) so i'm wondering if the colors will match, will it look as shiny as my original color, will it fade/scratch easier? etc etc

I just want to know if it's worth taking it in...any advice is more than appreciated. Thanks

Well that all depends 100% on who's doing it.....I have a place by my house that charges $3500 dollars. Some say that's a lot, but I have seen their work and your paint looks so good its looks as if it's wet...no joke. In a few years when I feel my car's clearcoat is running from me I well deff. take my car to them to get it done. On the flip side there are places that will charge 1500 for a complete paint job....the work I have seen them do isnt bad, but it's deff. no $3500 dollar job. Some folks paint over the existing paint and some paint shops(good ones, and perhaps more expensive) take the existing paint off as well as sanding and then to repaint and put on layers of clearcoat. Hopefully this helps, you kinda, and in most cases get what you pay for. If you plan on keeping your car for as long as I plan keeping mine go for the real deal. If you're looking for a car to look good for just a few years go with the money saver...

If you take it to a qualified body shop, the paint should be of the same material as the factory and it should look just as good as original. It took me a while to find one in my area and I've seen some terrible work done. Find a body shop with a good reputation and you should be fine.

I just had my front bumper replaced (was backed into) and the paint job came out quite well in fact, looks very good. If you can, don't get Nissan/Infiniti paint.

I would not use the Infiniti Paint either! But I would also spend the money and have a clear braw put on the front!

I wish they made a clear bra for the entire car!

But that is Just Me!

u dont have to tell me....i know that infiniti paint sucks...had to learn the hardway... = (

so in terms of paint job, can i just assume that the more expensive the paint job is, the more likely it will be better quality?

Most of the time yes... if I were you (you sound very unsure) I would research whatever shop you have in mind.

Another thing you can try is go to NICO General Chat and see who has experience with a reputable paint shop in your area.

We have over 100k members...someone should be able to help!

I would keep asking around about the shops that are local to you.You might check your insurance company to see who might be on their list of approved shops.

I had my Pathfinder front end replaced after a deer picked a fight with it.The shop here that did it gave a life time guarantee. So, ask about warranties.Wilburn Auto did ours.

There are quite a few aspects that you have to consider when getting a good paint job.

1st is the quality of the paint. Obviously you want something that is going to be durable. Contrary to popular belief, paint is really expensive. A friend of mine had his Z painted chameleon and spent 4 or 5 grand on paint alone. Obviously, athens blue won't cost that much.

2nd is how the shop plans on repainting the car. Some will do a light sand, mask off certain areas and paint over the existing paint.

Others will sand down to the primer, remove your doors, hood, trunk...etc, fill in any dents, then paint, paint, paint, paint, sand, clear, colorsand, clear, colorsand, clear, colorsand.

At anywhere between $50-150/hr, all of that painting and sanding gets expensive.

The one area that seems to always have orange peel is the lower part of the doors. Be sure to check that for texture. If it's smooth and glossy, the shop probably did a good job on the rest of the car.
