well IIWU, i'd go with Japanese Star Motor. they were VERY good to me. i did have to ask for parts like the MAF, ignitor, etc., but im guessing you dont need that stuff. if it matters, the engine i got from them is pulling 18"Hg. as of Saturday..Horray for a $1,300 beauty!rico05 wrote:Well, my plan is to replace HG, wp and a few gaskets and drop it in as is. Nothing internal. I was just laid off and I need my car up and running. Thank god for a killer severance package and tax return...
good call, i didn't even realize JDM Engines Corp. was in Texas lol. since this info has been brought up, go there and check it out...the only reason i had to buy from some place online was because in Michigan there isn't a really anybody that has imports, let alone someone importing the engines and selling them! lol...ca18detgabby wrote:if they are local........ take a ride over there and check out the motor in person.......... who cares about their record if you can go there and check it out and see what you are getting in person.
companies always are better to you when you deal face to face.
then you can check the harness for your friend and bring tools to do a quick leak down and or compression check and you should be solid.
called who? if 1400 +120 is for JDM Engine Corp, and that price includes shipping, tell them to take some off and go pick it up yourself if you can lol. and how much was the "other motor"?rico05 wrote:Well, I called them and to get them to deliver it, I have to pay $1400 plus about $120 in tax. I'll go look at it just to be sure. But the difference in price is nice on the other motor.
when i bought mine, i had to ask for all the b/s like the ignitor, MAF and some other things i needed, but if you have all that stuff, they should hook you up very nice. btw, they package and old it down VERY nicelyrico05 wrote:$1300 shipped from that place you got yours.
And getting it shipped will make it a lot easier on me as I am more than likely doing the swap 3 hours from where I live in my hometown...
no problem. most are japanese (like most places), but there is a guy that speaks VERY good english and what not..i just dont remember his name lol but yea just make sure to tell them you need ALL the stuff for the swap.rico05 wrote:Well, I am using the longblock and my buddy is using all the ancillaries for his swap (he bought a built longblock) so I will make sure and address that with them. Thanks for the heads up.
i'll probably get flamed..but the only thing i replaced were the spark plugs and thermostat..it doesn't overheat, pulls 18"Hg, and boost beautifully. i am going to pull the front cover and check the timing belt, because im worried about it, but if it looks good i'll leave it. i'll get to the water pump eventually, but its pumping and my s*** is cooling so i dont see the need to mess with it right now. also, no oil/coolant leaks at all.rico05 wrote:NICE! What all did you replace on it before you dropped it in? I am doing at least a timing belt and wp...maybe a hg if I am feeling frisky lol.
phew! lol hopefully i can get away with no maintenance until next spring. im going to replace the tie rod boots, the shifter cover on the transmission, and i have to rebuild one of my calipers..hopefully i dont have to do all the brakes but if so..w/e lolrico05 wrote:Man I ran like 2.5 years on no maintenance and another 2 years with just a hg swap.
well the rear passenger caliper is leaking fluid ALL THE TIME, so im just going to rebuild that one real quick lol. and i would get Q45 brakes, but im short on money lol. But i do have a cousin who works at Auto Value and can get me discounts..so im waiting to hear back from him on how much all around brakes would be for the car.rico05 wrote:Screw a rebuild man. Go to a jyard, pull some J30/Q45 setups, redrill the rotors and you are golden.
I lucked out and get my J30 calipers new on eBay for $90 shipped and I had a buddy machine some parts store rotors to 4 lug. SCARY negative Gs man. Like, lock-em-up if you are not paying attention.
