Mine evidently broke from it's hinges in a desperate bid for freedom. One side has been loose for years, but the left side appearently gave up the fight as I put away the radar detector this weekend.

I haven't disassembled the unit, but given the visual inspection, it looks like both hinges are completely gone.

Anyone attempted a rehab of the glovebox?

Mine is a 1990 with Blue interior, so it's going to be hard to find a match and I'd imagine the O.E. part will be horrendously expensive.

Any ideas appreciated.

Do some eBay searches. There are several junk yards, and parts wholesalers, that part out cars. You could check the "ask the seller a question" to see if any have the part you need.

Once you get your question typed in, highlight it and right click, to copy the data, then you only have to type it once. On the next one, you can just right click, and paste your question.

I have found several things this way. No auction involved, just a direct sale.

Of course, a roll of Duct Tape will do wonders. It is the official body repair product of the state of Alabama.

Seroiusly, there is a guy with some parts Q's around. I got the guy's name from the guy I bought my Q from. He might have the part.

[email protected]

He is in Athens, and has 2 1994 Q's he is parting out

So much more common to have the locks break than the hinges! Is your glovebox outer one color, or 2-tone? They do come apart if that might make finding a replacement any eaiser. The hinges just screw on once you unclip the little strings to get everything out of your way.

Thanks for the tip!

Haven't had time to pull it apart yet, I'm hoping those hinges just screw on! I'll have to pull it apart and see. I've got it hanging in by the lock right now, but it's driving me crazy anyway.

Heading to New Orleans later this week so I doubt I'll have any time until next week.

Anyone else hitting the Microsoft conference? As an ex-Novell guy, it's going to be a tough week.

And the hinges don't screw on... You have to order the entire part. I've never had any luck with finding used ones in the salvage yards - but who knows. The hinges are a very common failure item, and the junk yard guys aren't exactly gentle with interior trim peices. You may have luck with AutoGator (or rosedale, whatever they're called now) or Nissan Only Wreckers.

Last time I ordered one, I got it for $188.74 (List $269.63)- but that was 9/21/2001 and may have been a goodbye gift from TJ - bought a drive shaft for $450 on the same invoice :D.

I tried Autogator a while back and had no luck. Basically unless a member her is parting out his Q then you're stuck with a broken glovebox or buying the part from Joe. Only one of my hinges is broken so it still looks normal, I just avoid using it much. I was thinking of getting one from Joe, but I'm planning on buying another Q with less miles in the summer of 2005.

I meant the hinges screw on to the body. Heath's right--they are molded into the outer frame. But again, hopefully the outer frame is black or some other color more common than blue.
