Just what the subject says, I'm trying to build a carbon fiber front end, but I need to find a set of CF headlight covers, or make my own...

Thanks

I'm hoping to make some this summer when I can finance a little CF building...I know that's not much help to you now though :(

rice tastes good, but when applied to style its not tasteful.

bcuz...you know you CAN paint CF and when made correctly it offers a substantial wheight reduction right? I know I would very much like a CF hood, and light covers just to shave off some weight in the front that was gained when going turbo. I'd especially like it if it matched my body color.

nope I didnt know you can paint carbon fiber, wanna know why? because you cant. You can put vinyls on it, often people do this and it seems like its painted. Or you COULD paint it and ruin your 400$ hood, or mirros or wing.. whatever. Maybe the kid is doing it for performance reasons.. but I doubt that stock mirrors weigh much more, and I doubt that spending 250$ on aftermarket cf mirrors is exactly the cost effective thing to do interms of performance. I say this because Im pretty sure he could find something else to buy for 250$ that would increase his cars performance a lot more.

its rice, dont lie to yourselfs, denial is the first stage of becoming a /2!<3 /30I

And then again rice is relative to your tastes... I personally dont really like anything beyond stock on most cars, unless of course its done very clean or has a true purpose. but opinions are opinions, so I guess it woulda done just as well to leave mine out of this. Good luck finding your mirrors and all, I apologize for the smart *** in me coming out to play ;)

Well, if you think painting CF ruins it then whatever...but I think it's a viable way to drop weight and retain a stock look :) It's something I wouldn't consider until my other performance enhancing modification choices had been exhausted though.

Its a easy formula guys: SR20's, drifting, carbon fiber, ITS ALL RICE. What ever is popular = Rice. Its cool to be anti-popular.

Dood, Turbocharging is RICE....

HAHAHAHA, that's the way it seems doesn't it. You CAN paint carbon fiber. When you get a carbon fiber hood, it's not bare CF, it's got a clear coat on it which can be painted. I have a carbon fiber hood, damn I'm such a ricer.

Oh, and Importfan has a vented cf headlight cover I think for the S13's, but it might only be for one headlight.

edit: Yup, they do http://www.importfan.com/serie...=1122

J-Spec's name is completely Rice in and of itself. Japanese cars are stupid, and so are their engines.

jspec, if you read what I said you would see I said rice is relative to your opinion and your taste. personally I jsut htink anything that is tasteless is rice, and unless you truly have reached your performance goals interms of mechanical performance upgrades I think its rice to add lil trinkets and stuff. My brother has a cf hood, mirrors, rear wing, front lip, and I think he might even have abit in the interior, but you know what? anyone who calls his dx hatch ricey better be ready to race, because it aint no hoe. but even so I still light heartedly call him a ricer, just as I am doing here. I dont detest you cuz you like carbon fiber. I didnt mean to strike a nerve, Im just havin some fun.

so maclarens, ferraris, konisegs...and all those f1 cars came vinyled??? OMG.....

But back to topic....I don't think you can lose any weight from the thin sheet metal. You could go fiberglass...cheaper...and about the same weight as cf..

Fiberglass is a good bit heavier if you want to retain the same strength. Obviously, thats not as big a deal on headlight covers though :)

Im not bustin' on yah bcuz, I just think the whole rice thing has been blown out of proportion. When ever something becomes the "in" thing there are always people that rebel against it.

But you know what, for things like drifting, it was around before it got popular, and it will be around after its popular no more. I really dont care what other people think.

Im not going to lie, i love carbon fiber, if i could replace every panel, fender, door, hood, trunk, etc on my car with carbonfiber, i would. Unfortunatly im broke arse broke, so i leave that to people with money :D

meh.. carbon fiber is ok, I dont have anythign agaisnt it really, just I guess I jumped the gun and assumed his car was very close to stock, and I haventbeen proven wrong. and about replacing EVERYTHING wiht cf... umm youve gone a lil nuts there, but whatever floats your boat (in this case your boat is made of rice, jk jk Im only playing around :D )

and if you would like to prove me wrong, go ahead, but Im almost positive that there is no way to paint carbon fiber and get good results, so yes I do think that all the cars you listed use something besides paint. but please do prove me wrong, its always fun to learn new stuff.

I don't have any proof for you other than the fact that carbon fiber is nothing more than carbon fiber cloth and epoxy. Usually when it's really glossy thats because it's a thick enough coat of epoxy on the top to completely cover the grain of the CF, and it was usually vacuum bag cured. I see no reason you couldn't apply regular old automotive paint to epoxy and have it stick just fine...color matching might be a challenge but I'm certain it could be done.

You know, thats why they have the silvia front, cause of this and that: WHATEVER, You can spend your money on better lights and im sure they are lots lighter than 180 fronts.I keep thinking that these posts are eventually going to get to the real meaning behind them.

Holy moly, this post has caught on fire since i checked it last, I asked becuase I was considering on doing an entire front end in CF, since Import Fan is making a CF double sided front bumper. I figured CF bumper, fenders, hood, mirrors, but... do they have the headlight covers cause that would look funky with them being a different color. I know this may sound kind of ugly, but the car is black, and I think of original ideas, or at least things that are different, not TOTALLY the in thing yet, etc etc....

Example -- Believe me or not --

I had black wheels on my car in 1998, everyone i knew, except 2 of my friends HATED my wheels. I kept them on there until 2002 when about 15 cars in my area had black wheels.

That's where I was going with this, it was basically just a question, Oh, and by the way, I know I wouldn't be saving weight or any **** like that, just a looks thing

Later all, easy on the flames
