My freind had an SHO before he wrecked it and before i got my 240.....he loved that thing just like i loved my bro's 240, anyway i remember it beign really fast...yamaha v6 and all it was a 5-speed 93 74k really nice. He bashes the **** outta my car, and i admit its not in the best of shape, not that i dont love it but my negine is old and tired.....anyway when i explain to him that its not my car that is badass its the 240sx he justs bashes the car in general. Besides that fact that SHO's cost alot more and have a bigger engine are they really that much better then the 240's. They do have upgraded suspension but the front sway bar was longer then the rear and they understear like a mofo...also htey have a a mazda transaxle thats made for 140hp with 225fwhp spinning at it i geuss its 195 to the Front wheels..anyway has anyone beat a stock one..ive never got the chance to race one.

umm.. ok? didn't really know what question you were asking there... but as far as the taurus SHO... yeah it has a big engine and has power.. but i guess its a big engine in a taurus body... i think ford was trying to do something similar to what they did with the thunderbird SC model.. except they never really had too much success with it... tho i won't neglect the fact they do run.. and should probably be able to take a stock 240....

My old man had an SHO for a company car when I was just getting my drivr's liscense. Great car, black exterior, grey leather interior, loaded, dual exhaust!!!! I only got to drive it once, but they are WAY faster than a stock 240sx. It's not even close. They handle pretty well for a 4-door family car also. They 240 will still out performe it in the real twisties! As far as a Mazda trans-axle, I'm not sure if it's true but I wouldn't doubt it. Ford has had a foot in Mazda's back door since the late 80's, and bought them out in 93 or 94. I'm pretty sure they sealed the deal in 1993. Some Ford Probes had Mazda engines in them in the early 90s.

as far as the mazda transaxle, i dont think so. the probe shared parts with the mx-6. they are bad a** and should easily take a stock 240. although they are very expensive cars to maintain. they require service every 30k miles and it usually runs close to $1000. they are can be very quick but are also very picky and quirky cars.

Ford has been "all up in mazdas grill" since 1993. The probe gt shares the kl03 v6 engine with the Mazda mx-6. They base model probe and Mx-6 share an i4 engine called the umm...fz-ze, that might be the jdm motor im not too sure on that.

I had a 94 'Scort GT and it was the ONLY domestic car I have ever enjoyed owning. The only mods I had were a K&N filtercharger, Fomoco racing cams, and Thrush exhaust. That car had more pull in 2nd and 3rd gear than anything I've ever driven. It's the only car I enjoyed driving as much as my 240. The 240 is a little faster on the top end, but I'm sure 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are better with the Escort. Then again mine was a little modded, but not any more than my 240. The only reason I got rid of it... I got run over by a plow truck!!!

One of my friends owns a new Escort zx2. It's pretty fast but it won't beat the 240's. I was surprised that my 240 w/only cat back exhaust beat out his very new engine. I own a 90 240 so my car is pretty old. Although, i didn't ask him how much HP/Torque it has... Oh well, I'm very pleased w/ my 240:D . Does anyone know what the power #'s are for a new zx2???

The new ZX2 compared to the new Escort, is not in any way the same as the old Escort GT compared to the old Escort. The Escort GT used a smaller engine (1.8L) with 16v DOHC. The old Escort had a 1.9L single cam engine that produces something like 20+ less HP. The GT also had a TOTALLY different suspension than the base model Escort. The newest 'Scorts use the same engine as the ZX2 I think. The suspension in the ZX2 is only upgraded with a rear sway-bar. I'm not sure if that is 100% correct (refering to the newer cars), but I drove a ZX2 after my GT was hit, and it sucked. It was VERY slow in comparison to the GT, and handled like a$$.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but my previous car was an sho and the engine was a 3.0 litre yamaha v6. The thing ran great until the millions of problems came up with it.

SHOs made power up until 6500 rpm, but most people shift at 7 to get the most out of the gear, things had a high redline because of it's motor cycle motor nature. It's over 3,000 pounds and made enough power to roast most moderate hondas out there, it was nice, but the 60k up keep was almost 2 grand. I believe the 0-60 times were more 5-6 seconds though. To bad those things couldn't launch or start a stop to go race. It had horrible traction, as most fwd do, but once you get that thing going it's pretty fast. To put it this way, if I raced a integra with maybe i/h/e and i ran my gears all the way through, if i reached third gear and i was a head of him the race was over. It was a nice car, but I'm going to be trading mine in for a nice nissan 240sx yay for me.

all probes except the probe LX (the LX had the 3.0L V6 from the taurus) from 89-92 had mazda drive & power trains (FS, KL and F -series engines). The FS-ZE is the JDM four banger...170hp.

Ford owns 40% of Mazda. In 94 the companies formed the "AutoAlliance" and Ford Probes and Mazda 626/MX6s where made by the Alliance. The Alliance's factory was Ford's old Flat Rock Michigan plant.

just making sure the fact were straight :)

I forget what year it was.. but a friend of mine had an early 90's Probe GT, and it had the same engine as my 1990 Mazda truck... well, almost the same... his was turbo'd! It's a 2.6L 12v 4-banger. Im sure there are other differences, but I'm fairly sure they were the same bottom end and head.

im a little confused about what you guys are saying. the last three shos that i have seen, i was gonna buy one until i found out the title was branded, have each had a v8 engine in them.

i live in chico cali and there are two on the lot right now that have v8's

and another in fairfeild that also has a v8.

one thing i did notice however is that all three of them had branded titles, manufacterers defects that render tham as lemons under cali law. hmmmm

also they had auto trans, something i am trying to avoid right now.

only the turtle-type SHOs had V8s (generation before current). the two older generations were using the High-output yamaha V6.
