Occasionally, there are times when I press the key ring in, and turn and get nothing at all....no sound.....like there is no power. Im talking about no light on the console and no sound. Sometimes it starts to make a little sound and then cuts off like the power completely cuts out.

And even stranger........It happens every time i park in this specific lot area in this one mall! I drive there and turn the car off, run in to pick up lunch and when I come back I can turn the key ring 2 or three times and get nothing. After waiting a few minutes, I try again and then it makes the starting up sound and then starts.

Now I don't go to this mall often and it have only happened about once outside that mall so i havent reported it. I can barely write about it now....how can i talk about it to a mechanic?!

I've had the car for almost 2 years now and it has happened less than ten times.

I was wondering if anyone else with the intellikey has this problem.

its funny, but your concern regarding keyless ignition systems, and cars that use chipped key's not starting in certain area's is not far off at all.

The Daily News has an entertaining story about the possibility of the five-block radius surrounding the Empire State Building becoming a sort of Bermuda Triangle for cars. Apparently, a number of cars have to be towed from that area every day, which makes people suspicious. The common denominator: the ESB.

“We get about 10 to 15 cars stuck near there every day,” said Isaac Leviev, manager of Citywide Towing, the AAA’s exclusive roadside assistance provider from 42nd St. to the Battery. “You pull the car four or five blocks to the west or east and the car starts right up.”

The News reports that people suspect that it's the presence of the multitude of radio and tv transmitters on the building's 203-foot spire. Phantom radio waves are suspected of jamming key-less locking systems and automotive disabling security systems. A local doorman says he sees it all the time and calls it the "Empire State Building Effect."

SO MAYBE YOUR PARKING NEAR SOMETHING THATS JAMMING SIGNALS? TRY PLACING YOUR KEYFOB RIGHT NEXT TO THE THING YOU TURN TO START YOUR CAR. OR NEXT TIME, TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE REMOTE AND START YOUR CAR THE OLD FASHIONED WAY. (unless its the alarm system thats stopping your car from starting)

id keep any eye on it. because it could be a radio frequency issue- or it could be a car alarm/ignition problem thats coming from within.
make sure its not happening on its own, and in random places.

i know i have this one off-ramp in Morganville, NJ - coming off of RT18 MY TPMS LIGHT FLASHES, AND MY XM RADIO DIES OUT for about 10seconds. then all returns to normal. (i included a google earth pic just for fun.)
the red starts show where my XM RADIO & TPMS light go nuts.

The tpms module and i-key module are mounted next to each other in the car. I've only seen one case where one of the modules was bad and caused the signals to either the i-key or tpms to go haywire.

If your i-key doesn't respond to the car (not turning on), the manual key should still work. Sometimes the I-keys have NATs Codes where there's an internal malfunction and causes the car to not respond to the key.

Another hypothesis is the tire pressure monitors may be going bad and causing the blinking light. Nissan uses a high tech tool called the Signaltech II which wirelessly collects data from each sensor and tells the technician if the sensor may be going bad. Typically this should be what a reputable tech at a Nissan dealer should check for when diagnosing these symptoms.

You might also want to see if you have the same issues with your OTHER key.

When the car is very hot due to temps outside, the computer would sometimes cut the starter off while it would crank the crank. The screen would say key isn't detected in vehicle.
That's the only issue I have with the key, but that has only happened 4 times so far, so I'm not worried.
