Anyone ever have this power steering problem?

Alright...so i know my car needs an alighnment becasue it sometimes pulls to the side at low speeds. (just some backround info). Heres my real problem. Sometimes my power steering seems like it kicks off for a second or two when i am at a stop sign and starting to move into my turn. I have to use a little more pressure to turn the wheel but a little before mid turn it goes away and everything is normal again. So today i did like one or two doughnuts from a stop. You know just punch it while the wheel is turned. (in a empty parking lot in a non residential area). After the 2 spins though I could feel my power steering wasnt working right. After pulling out of the parking lot it seemed as if my power steering wasnt working at all. I got scared i might be leaking fluid or something so i took my car right home. But the whole way home i had like no power steering, i really had to turn the wheel hard to turn. When i got home i popped my hood, and looked under the car.....I didnt see anything leaking. Anyone know what my problem could be? I didnt check my power steering fluid....im going to try and do it tomorrow. But could it be im low on fluid? I broke a hose?????? This sux..im scared to drive my baby

first thing u need to check the fluid level.... just pop the cap off and look in it should be almost completely full.... after that check the belt make sure it didnt break or pop off when u were turnin circles

fluid is full and hose is tight......idk i think im going to have to take it to a mechanic

You can get a new used pump at a junkyard for around 30 to 40 dallars. and its not hard to replace. Hopefully its not the rack though I bet that would be expensive....Or you can just take it all out, I've heard of people running their car w/o the p/s system.
