Anyone ever had the doors lock themselves while outside the vehivle?

cA week ago I parked our '06 Murano in the garage and a half hour later I go back out and the doors are locked.....? I figured I must have hit the fob but don't remember hearing the horn honk.

Then yesterday I stop to get fuel and something told me to take the keys out. Good thing I did. While fueling up I heard the doors lock! No honk, so I know I didn't bump the fob.

Anyone heard of this happening?

For now we keep the keys with us.

Never heard of that one....

On my '09 if you unlock the doors with the fob and don't open any door for one minute the doors will automatically lock again. That's the closest scenario I can think of.

If you have the I-Key the door should never allow you to lock the key in the car even if it's sitting on the console.

Not sure if I have an I-key, but if it has anything to do with how well equipped my Murano is I doubt I have it.

I couldn't believe the doors locked while I was fueling up. Crappy morning, too, about 30 degrees and 20 mph winds. That would have really sucked.

Yes. There is a key combination that sets this 'feature'. It happened to me if I press the unlock button on the remote and did not open any doors. This happens of course when you press the unlock to open the gas tank lid and are outside the vechile. There is some combination of keys to press that will disable this feature. I would disable this since you could lock your self out.

That's exactly what I did. I hit the key fob twice to unlock the fuel door.

I'll see if I can somehow disable the feature you mentioned.

Thanks!

You can disable or set the relock interval in the on-board control system (it's in one of the settings menus somewhere).

This was a commonly reported problem on early (03 and 04 Mos). It happened to us a few times with our 04, but despite 2 TSB's for the problem - one for 03 and 04's and another for only 03's - my dealer would never confirm that a problem actually existed. The inadvertent front door lock upon exiting vehicle problem (as it was described in one of the TSB's) was, and actually still IS so sporadic that I have never been able to get it to repeat. Therefore, the dealer wouldn't apply either of the TSB's, which called for replacing parts like door harness assemblies, door latch assemblies and/or door lock/remote assemblies. Instead, my service manager insisted that the problem was merely a programmable function that he disabled via the on-board control system.

With some searching, I did locate this function and verified that it was disabled. But the doors have still mysteriously locked themselves since - though not very often (in fact I can't remember exactly when it happened last - many months ago). After the first time it happened when I had to drive another key to my wife who had been locked out of her running car in a raging snowstorm (when she got out to clear snow from the windows), we ALWAYS have a spare key available when we exit the car.

I do believe, however, that yours is the first 06 I've heard of with this problem.

I went back and read the OP, which appears to address an automatic door lock - but with the key and fob out of the car. The problem I just referred to was an automatic relock WITH the key and fob IN the car. And sometimes with the car running. If you have the key and/or fob with you, I don't see an auto relock as really a problem.

Maybe it isn't a real problem since I did have the key outside the vehicle. But, when it locked inside the garage the fob wasn't activated at all and we found the doors locked.

Granted, that was the only time I found the doors locked without any prior inputs from the fob and maybe I don't really have a problem. For instance, today I had my wife with me while fueling up and, as an experiment, I had her stay in the car and unlocked the fuel door with the fob and left the keys in the ignition. The doors didn't lock on me.

So, maybe you're right, and there isn't a problem.

Actually, I've tested this a couple of times (accidentally, of course), but my 09 LE, will not allow me to lock the key fob in the car. I'm not sure how it knows (maybe it has two sensors, and can do triangulation), but when I hit the door lock button and the fob is inside, it emits a different beeping than I hear any other time (a fast sort of beep) and will not lock the doors.

I don't think you can lock the fob inside. Can someone refute this?

Yes - it happens to us frequently on our 2003 SL.

We make sure we have our key in hand when we exit the vehicle.

It happened to me this morning on my G35
I left the engine running and ran into the post office to mail a letter. When I came out less then a minute later the doors were locked with the key and FOB in the ignition.
Fortunately I had the valet key in my other pocket. 1st time this ever happened as I run into Dunkin Donuts every morning for coffee with the engine running.
I learned a long time ago its a good idea to always carry two keys.

That happened to my wife one time when she had an '05 G35x. She was at a gas station and could not get back in the car, her purse was sitting on the floor with her keys in it. I was on my way there and she all of a sudden was able to get in.
