If so any hints? I guess the parking brake shoes should never wear out unless someone forgot to release the parking brake and was driving around like that, or like on my car the parking brake doesn't fully release unless I stick my toe under the parking brake pedal and lift up on it. Does anyone replace the disc and parking brake hardware just as preventive maintenance or only if needed?
I know they say on a Ford explorer one should always use new caliper guide pins. The hardware kits for American made cars are very cheap, maybe $6, but on the J30 they are around $24.
Also, does anyone periodically adjust the parking brakes, or are they self adjusting?

Other then breaking the parking brake cable once(covered under warranty), I have never serviced the parking brake on the car.

My parking brake was starting to feel loose, so I followed the adjustment procedure outlined here: http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/F ... brake.html

Worked like a charm for me. Not sure if that will help your pedal release problem, however.

Even where its hilly I cant imagine needing it, our cars are (99.98%) automatic and always equipped with a posi so park should hold plenty tight.

I wouldn't advise depending upon park alone on a hill. Sometimes it puts so much pressure on the pawl that you can't shift out of park. Happened to me with my GMC van. They advise always putting on your parking brake on a hill before you shift into park.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem victor, Mine just started having trouble not wanting to release until it wouldn't at all, found the wire underneath and put a spacer between the ball tip and the arm it pulls on but it still won't release, seems the spring it is supposed to push is lower then it should be, but reaching up under there and pulling that spring releases it still. I tried the Service manual but was no help...

Never mind, A little WD-40 fixed everything, i took a video of it, kinda hard to see and i used my phone so horrible quality and it's upright ugh.. but the wire pulls the lever which in turns pushes or hits a spring arm mechanism that releases the P-brake.

Also a parking brake being released into your arm semi hurts lol.
