anyone else with problems on 2010 with iphone ios4?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I updated my iphone to ios4 - prior to this it has worked fine on both my 2009 g37 vert and my wife's 2010 EX35. On the 2010 EX35, prior to the upgrade the iphone was recognized as an ipod, album art was shown - everything was copacetic. Post upgrade I've had problems on the EX35 - g37 with the older nav system still seems to be working fine. On the EX35, when the iphone is plugged into the usb cable the car either hangs on "reading usb" or briefly shows the ipod control screen - plays for a minute or so - then pops back to the "reading usb" message with loss of ipod control. The system no longer shows album art. Bluetooth streaming works fine and the performance is still as expected in the 2009 g37 nav system. I would expect EX35 systems from 2009 and earlier to still work as well. I've tried the obvious - rebooting the phone, stopping and restarting the car, connecting and disconnecting the cable and combinations.

Has anyone else encountered a problem with the new iphone software update and the 2010 EX35?

Peter

I've always had problem w/ 3rd generation iPod Touch (OS 3.1) w/ MY10 EX35. I only had FOR ONCE worked flawlessly thru the USB cable for whatever reason (that time the vehicle engine wasn't running) and while everytime I connect the iPod Touch thru USB cable the system would play for a random amount of VERY SHORT time and then hangs / reading usb / unrecognised USB device or something (don't recall the exact wording). Called Infiniti CS but of course u received the standard response - 'Go to a dealer and have them check'. WORTHLESS PAIN IN THE 'S'. Now I upgraded the OS to 4.0 (or something) but haven't get a chance to test it in the vehicle yet. Annoying!

I've confirmed its not a cable problem. Either the phone or the car software is at fault.

This turns out to be a fairly widespread problem showing up on multiple makes following the iphone ios 4 release. The solution - at least for me - was found on an apple support forum http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 5&tstart=0. For my 2010 EX35, with an Iphone 3GS running the first release of ios 4, the process I followed was this -
- start car
- plug in running iphone
- (system will crap out after 10-30 sec)
- do a hard restart of the iphone - press the "home" button (bottom front center) and the power/lock button on the top simultaneously for 10 sec or so until the apple screen reappears - don't swipe the power off slider that appears early in this process
- I unplugged the iphone and reconnected the cable - the ipod control menus appeared but no sound came from the music.
- I unplugged the iphone, turned the car off and on again (rebooting the car?), and reconnected the iphone
- Everything copacetic again with full ipod control and display of album art.

Thanks for the post, but this does not seem to work for me, after upgrading my iPhone to OS4. My USB connection works but I am unable to connect via Bluetooth. Password has been changed and tried again. Any suggestions?

I have a 2010 370z w/NAV and when connected via bluetooth the handset phonebook on the nav screen comes and goes. One minute it is available the next it is grey'd out and does not work. The audio and answer connections seem to work OK. Very annoying... I hope there is a fix. Overall the iphone4 seems to have a very flaky bluetooth implementation.

Tried every suggestion out there, my ipod still will not sync with my 2010 EX35. Has Infiniti even looked into this? I called my dealership and they were clueless!

Can anyone confirm if iOS 4.0.1 helps with this at all?

EDIT: Ok, so I was having the same problems and tried the suggested fix above. Once I followed it exactly (including when to plug it in and unplug it) and it works perfectly, BT for phone, BT for audio and all IPod functions.

Thanks a lot pwlorraine you saved me some headaches and frustration. ;)

Seems like I spoke too soon. I updated to 4.0.1 and now I am back to no IPod functions. BT for audio and phone still work but no IPod functions. Any other thoughts/suggestions out there?

THanks

I suggest repeating the process post update. The issue according to the apple support groups is around getting the iphone to negotiate a link by forcing the hard reset. Both my wife's iphone 4 and my iphone 3gs (running 4.0) are synced. Scandalous that it becomes this crazy to get something simple to work.

I haven't upgraded to 4.0.1 yet as I read about problems with losing access to itunes after the upgrade and was waiting for the next upgrade. It is *possible* that something new is broken but I'd return to the hard reset option.

pwlorraine solution worked on my 2010 EX35. Thanks pwlorraine.

- I turned the car on, and connected the iPhone 3GS with 4.0.1 iOS. Error message on the Nav: "Check USB device" or something like that. Incompatibility error message on the phone.

- Hard reset the phone as described by "pwlorraine" (press and home button and power button on the phone, and not swiping the power off option), while the phone is still connected. Phone powers up automatically. Error message still persists.

- Disconnect the phone. Hard reset the phone one more time. Wait till phone is fully powered. Connect the phone with car USB cable. And Voila!!! Everything back to normal.
