I was looking at the specs for the 2006 Maximas and I saw that they have 265HP. Then I checked out the 2007 Maximas and noticed they have 255HP. Anybody know what gives?

No, I didn't notice, but you've sparked my curiousity... I'll see what I can find out.

It's the new CVT transmission... It has more powertrain loss than the regulat Auto.

It's actually due to the newly implemented SAE system, which changes how horsepower is measured and calculated. Many cars are seeing a slight drop in horsepower (some are seeing HUGE drops...a few others are seeing increases). The '07 makes as much power as the '04-'06 did, but the new measurement results in a lower number. If the '04-'06 were calculated with the new system, they'd come in at 255 as well.

While that might be true (I'm not sure) it wouldn't affect manufacturer's published horsepower numbers since they're crank numbers, not wheel numbers.

Good point. I didn't think about that. My uncle owns a Nissan dealership so I get all the cool news about new cars and stuff. I didn't know about the SAE thing though.. The CVT Transmission does have more of a power loss than a normal Auto though.. so you will still see more of a drop there as well. I forgot about the factory measurements being from the crank.

Stick to a manual transmission and you won't have that problem.

As of 2007, you don't have a choice. CVT is the only transmission option.

I don't get then why the 07 Altima V-6 is rated at 270 @ 6000 and 258 @ 4400, that also has the CVT transmission but has a 6-speed manual option as well. Fifteen more horsepower and eight more pound feet of torque.

Is the new "D" platform 07 Altima being equipped with a detuned version of the VQ35HR?

The Altima seems to be the new sporty car. Kindof taking it from the Sentra. The Sentra is the cool college person car thats cheaper, the Maxima is the luxary familyish car and the Altima seems to be the new fast sporty Nissan car outside of the Z.

That kind-of seems to be the way it is going.. Though I think the alti is just a little too big to be a sporty car.. The SE-R and 3.5 SE are nice though.. I have just never been a fan of this bodystyle Altima.
