Guys running 235/35/19.

Oddly enough, only in reverse I hear a rubbing sound (rubber on metal). I've mentioned it in another thread but wanted one here in case someone else had it. VERY rarely in drive I'll hear it going slowly on really uneven roads. I've checked and don't see any signs of rubbing.

I've read some things here about spacers and such. Does anyone else have this issue with this tire size?

Wheel width and offset will help, also do you know your alignment specs?

hmmmmmmmm I believe it's an 8.5, but I'm not sure.

As far as alignment specs, I just bought the car and it was a nightmare just to get them to align it (was pulling to the right) much less get the specs.

How would those two factors affect this problem?

The width and offset along with the alignment will effect how the wheel sits in the wheel well and how close it comes to either the fender or suspension. Too much camber (possibly positive) could have the top of the wheel/tire leaning out at the top.

Post up all the specs and then lets see if one of the Y33 guys can weigh-in on clearances.

Tires have to be under 94 OEM minimum load bearing capacity.

Don't know anyone really running 19" on a FY33 (maybe Falk?), although I suppose it could be done.

Yup, Kevin dropped some 19 inchers. I think you should look into some spacers, if you're getting just minor rubbing probably some small spacers will do the trick. I have a set of M45 sport rims I plan to put on my 97' and will need 1" spacers to make them work.

Actually, you need to get the correct OEM minimum load rated tires of 95. You are way under so handling, braking and safety are greatly compromised.

the load rating is how much the tire gives under the weight of the car?

I'll have to have some alignment spesc pulled.

When you guys speak of spacers, where do these spacers go? onto the lugs?! The hub?

Thx for replies.

And also, why would it really only happen in reverse? What sense does that make?!?!

I have only seen pictures of them, Kevin or someone help the man out and give him the scoop. I'm going to be looking into them soon, I thnk they bolt right to the hub and will push your rims out a bit which should probably stop the rubbing.

Is the sound coming from the back or front of the car? Can you pinpoint the general location? I say pull off the tires, lay on your back and shine a light up in the wheel well. If it's a wheel rubbing, it's got to have tell-tale marks where ocurring. Have someone walk along the car while you reverse.

ya, I'll have to have someone listen for it. It is CLEARLY coming from the back wheels. CLEARLY.

Falk, any info on those spacers and where to get them? I'll take a set NOW!

Sorry I don't have any help to offer, I have no rubbing issues. My rears rubbed (275/30-19), but I rolled the fenders and they've never rubbed since.

So your wheels are 19x8.5 and you don't know the offset right? They sure don't look like they're that tucked in that there might be a rub on suspension somewhere. The minimum width they make the bolt on spacers is 3/4", which seems like allot judging by your signature picture. In any case, call 310.837.8001 and ask for Sammy, tell him you know me and you are looking for the bolt on spacers. Without knowing your offsets it's pretty hard to tell what size spacers you need (if you need them at all, which I'm not 100% sure you do).

edit: Ok, so from what I gather, your wheels are 19x8.5 +38, which should not rub anything on your Y33. You could use spacers, but if you're going to lower the car, I would suggest you lower it first, then decide what size spacers you want. FWIW, with my last set of wheels, they were 18x8 and 18x9, +40 frt & rr, and I ran 7/8" spacers. They never rubbed before or after the spacers.

thanks Falk.

Hmmmm so I shouldn't be rubbing but I am. I'll have to stop wasting everybody's time and just get under the car this weekend.

Thanks again for not flaming a newbie guys, love this place.

Hey Falk screw your nipple I like your lip.
