KA24DE 91 nissan 240sx hatch

The teeth on my distributor keeps slipping away from my idler sprocket. The timing is right and everything, the car would keep running until the distributor slips off then the car dies. Theres this clicking noise when the car is running and when the distributor decides to slip off, the engine dies, then i have to put it back in the right firing position again.

Any idea why its doing this?

check the gears for wear. if it's worn, time for a new sprocket

if its not your gears. the bolt that holds the idler sprocket on may be stripped. that what happened to my oldest engine.
