Mines going out at 165k miles on it and am hopefully getting one soon (looking around). Is this common among the KA's?

the plugs going to crap is a common problem. my buddy's 93 coupe has that same problem, although my 89 never did...until I swapped motors and moved the plug around... usually it's corrosion at the plug. Before changing that, you should probably scrape away at the corrosion at the plug and the MAFS and see if that does the trick. Also tightening the connectors will do wonders.

My car runs fine normally, but at wide open throttle, it doesn't accelerate from 4k RPM and up. Could this be a symptom of bad MAF?

Yeah its a symptom, but coud be alot of other things too. Take off the MAFS and clean it a little, take off the wire and black box and clean those too. That may work.
