Extremely noisy and unbalanced heater fan..... Enough so that the whole car would shake with the fan set on Hi Speed and the roar was unbelievable. Had to constantly use low speed and even then it was audible.

Problem??? A rodent had gotten into the system and started ripping out dashboard insulation/sound deadening material which was then sucked into the Squirrel Cage fan assembly. The dealer showed me the pile of contamination and it was really quite remarkable. This must have been one quick little critter because it all happened within the space of three hours whilst my wife and I were attending a funeral.

So I take it the Stealer to get it repaired. Of course, there was no mention of this NOT being covered under Nissan's 3 year bumper to bumper NON Warranty. $322 later, I was having it out with the Service Department and their usual arrogant attitude. Although they agreed that this WAS obviously a Design Defect in the vehicle (ie, the system should be well enough sealed to prevent critters from getting in there in the first place), they indicated that Nissan wouldn't cover it but that THEY would get paid one way or the other. I said to them, "I have no assurance this won't happen again a week from now". "We know", they said. Now sign here and pay up if you want your car back.

I've since contacted Nissan's "NON" Customer Service Department to receive the expected news, ie Not Covered under "Escape Clause" Environmental Issues or some other crap! Unfortunately for them, they're ****ing with the WRONG guy this time. This is going to cost Nissan and their faulty design efforts WAY more than $322. I'm in the process of building my case now.

SO, has anyone else experienced such a problem with their Versa???

Thanks,achr

Nop... sorry to hear about your problem. I have a question though, did you find the rodent?? You better get a cat in that garage... that's why I always feed the neighbors cat, you never know when you'll need their services

Rodents getting into all sorts of cars have been a problem for years, not just with Nissans. I haven't heard of others having this problem with a Versa, but you'd better be ready to fight the whole auto industry and history if you expect to get anywhere with this one as a design defect...

It's kinda like trying to blame the house builder for a mouse that got into your ceiling and chewed through wires. It just happens. It sucks...but it happens.

If you spilled a cup of coffee on the seat and it left a stain, would you expect it to be under warranty? Of course not.

This is not a manufacturer's defect by any stretch of the imagination.

You owe your dealer an apology for being a d!ck.

It's like the time a squirrel crawled up into the engine area of my friends Silverado and somehow died near the exhaust manifold. I was at his house and we were going to a place that was over an hour away. Nothing like trying to find out why we kept smelly burnt hair all the way there.

When we got there we popped the hood and I found the roasted squirrel. Couldn't blame Chevy for this.

It was good eatin' though!

just kiddin'...about the good eatin' part.

Seriously, how could the work of a rodent be the responsibility of Nissan and its warranty? Does the said rodent work for Nissan?

It's unfortunate, but it's unfair to blame Nissan for it.

Hows is this a faulty design..like one of the previous posters said..there have been rodent problems in vehicles for years. We had a lady come in wither her new Versa and it smelled like something had died in it.I pulled out the air filter and found dog food and hair that a mouse had stored in ther filter housing. Then when we pulled the dash apart and found 3 dead mice in the heater box. They had also ripped apart some of the insulation and had food stored in there. We've also had a Armada in here where mice got into the heater box and blower motor area and had filled the squirrel cage with insulation. We've found snakes in the air cleaner boxes, squirrel familys living under the wiper cowl on an xterra.Unfortunatley mice are very flexible and can squeeze into a vert tight area.I've seen mice squeeze them self through a 1/8th inch crack in a wall.

So going after Nissan for this is not going to get you any where atall.Save your money-it's a losing battle on your end.

That's ridiculous. There is no way Nissan would cover this damage as part of the 3 year/36,000 warranty and rightfully so.

A suspected rodent causing damage is not a defect in workmanship or defective part.

Please.

Nissan has no control over rodents. Also $322 sounds like a fair price to me. If your complaining about $322 you're probably a brokeass and couldn't afford waste your money on a lawyer anyways.

You're how old? From your post I'm guessing 16-18.

I don't think I would try and take this one to the Supreme Court. Might want to go see Judge Waupner, da dant dant da dant.
