Just wondering if anyone else has the same issue as I do. I get an annoying rattle when I drive around 80mph coming from either outside or inside of the front left side of the cabin. Not sure though if its from the outside or in. Anyone have any info or ideas on this issue? It only happens when im driving on the freeway at high speeds.. sounds like a crackling/creeking sound.....Also, does anyone know if the dealer would give me a hard time if they see the Injen intake? Thanks and I love this forum by the way, way better than any other Altima coupe forum out there, hands down.

I've heard rattling/ticking from the driver and passenger door panels. The upper-front part of the panel, especially. I push on it and hear it crackle badly. The dealer ended up spraying this black insulation in the panel on the driver side, and it did improve it a lot, but I still think the interior is just noisy as hell. I pulled apart the driver door panel and noticed many areas where wiring can bang against the inside of the door. I put in some foam sticky pads you put under a chair to stop it from scratching a wood floor, and that fixed it for me. Now for the other side...

I've never really ridden or driven in a new car before, is this how they all are brand new? Does it go away? Am I just oversensitive to it?

THANKGOD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!! I've been hearing this **** forever!!! That crackling, creaking sound is coming from the stereo bracket!!! Right above the left temperature display (if u have premium)....if u press on it, u will hear the creaking and crackling..kinda like when something doesn't adhere well to a surface and some of it bubbles up or whatever..know what I mean??......I also have a very very annoying vibration noise from the right side of the sunroof....its faint but its there......I don't know but Nissan did a HORRIBLE job with the fit and finish with this car.....I'm almost regretting it now, all the excitement of the new car is wearing off very quickly...ppl comment on the car and I don't even acknowledge it anymore cause my car seems such a piece of crap to sometimes.....I'm very disheartened with this thing!.....

I'll be writing that damn letter soon to Nissan Canada....which is actually not too far from my house...I really wanna go there and try and make an appt, with the highest authority possible....and report all the troubles and disatisfaction i've been having with the car.

CHOW, if you or anyone else here in the GTA area want to get together and go as a team that would be even better! The more the better and probably the quickest way to get some attention from Nissan.

I think I know exactly what you are talking about. It only happens at exactly 80mph, and usually on windy days. It seems to come from the outside, on the front left of the car. I have no idea how I'm going to track it down. Only plus is that it goes away at 85+

Anyone else have any ideas what this is?

Well.. quick update.. Besides that annoying rattling noise coming from the front left (outside) passenger side of the car when driving fast, I took my Altima to the dealer to get the front manifold heat shield fixed (loud Rattling on cold startups) which they didn’t do anything (Still rattling).. but according to the recall letter I received' the heat shield bracket needs to be completely replaced (So i have to go back).... Anyway, back to the subject in hand' I asked them about the rattling when driving fast and they said that they can check it out but will be difficult to figure out and if they need to keep it more than a day they wont be able to give me a loaner car because the warranty does not cover car squeaks. I love my car but dealing with the dealer is a whole different experience. I'll keep you posted but still cant figure out what’s causing that rattling from the outside.. It really sounds like a loose plastic something???? And it seems to be getting louder as time passes by.. Anyway, merry xmas to you all.

Phonzy, I sent them a letter and I've recieved a reply already, they basically told me that replacing the car is not an option, but they will continue to replace and repair anything under warranty until the warranty is still valid. That I should be taking up the issue with the Dealership since we have a legal binding contract with them when purchasing the car. They said other bull**** like "we can not predict when a certain part will fail"...and continued to say that warranty will cover all the defects in workmanship. Other than that, my father told me that the service manager told him that apparently when the Senior Customer Service consultant from Nissan Canada spoke to him concerning the issues, that there will be something for us in the New Year....he just left it as "Nissan Canada will have some kind of surprise for you in the New Year".....now we're not sure what that means....but we are hoping it's some kind of rebate...who knows..but I'm not betting on something thats going to be significant.

Well, can't say for sure if this is what your problem is of course, but I think I've finally figured out this rattle that I was getting at high speeds on windy days.

It ended up being air leaking in through the windshield. I have to admit, it really didn't sound like it (more like a rattle than the swishing of air), but I can get rid of it by pressing on the windshield while I'm driving.

I only even thought of trying because another Altima owner told me that he had air leaking through his windshield and got it fixed.

In any case, give it a try -- I'm going in in a few days to see if I can't get it taken care of

Guys, and gals, the rattling is caused by the cheapness of the interior and how the car was put together. I guess if u want to spend time fixing it manually, that is cool, because u might make some progress. But letters to Nissan and complaints to dealer will lead to nowhere. If you want a car that doesn't rattle, when you are next shopping for a new car, pay very careful attention to the interior. for ex., on a new Camry, you'll notice the doors are much thicker and the whole front cabin is much more 'solid' and well-insulated than the a/c. The honda civic is another car which has crazy rattles and squeaks, because it is cheap.

bottom line,, no rattles means buying something like a camry, accord, or even the altima sedan,,,, or of course a more expensive car.

a/c still rocks though! hehe

Hi i just wanted to point out that i also hear some rattling from my Altima but i have the Sedan.. It sounds like it's coming from the driver side door or maybe even the tire? Idk i can't quite pick out where it's coming from exactly but i only happens when i drive on the freeway or over slight bumps... It's really annoying and seems to be getting worse.. I don't think it's the shocks or anything since it barely has 21k miles on it.. Maybe the brake pads? I hear they make a squeaking noise when wearing out? Anyone have an idea? I'd appreciate it before i decide to take it to the dealer which apparently can't do anything..

Update... Well I went to the dealer this past Tuesday and had the recalled heat shield along with a blown fuse (A/C and radio display lights went out) replaced.. anyway' so I asked the service manager about the rattling while driving on the freeway and as I soon as I told him that it happens when I drive around 70-80mph he right away said "Sorry but we cannot re-create that rattling because we cannot legally drive at that speed, sorry".. so in other words' I'm screwed.... not cool man!!! so I have to fix this myself and I really have no Idea where its coming from, if its from Inside the car or outside. I'd have a perfect car if i can just get rid of that rattling. Hey! if i find a fix for that rattling I’ll let you all know right away.

what im thinking is... my rattling or what sounds like light static noise.. (even when the radio is off) is that maybe my drivers side front dash speaker is loose? or the grill is loose? anyone check this out and notice any parts loose??

Hello all,Well, the same type of noise for me but it seems to me to be coming from the right side front pillar near the front windshield. I need to have someone else drive the car so I can get in on that side and see what I can figure out. It starts at 80 up through 90mph. Car was quiet when I got it, have talked to the dealer and they drove it at that speed and told me the new ones do it also.. I have yet to drive one but they have offered. Of course at first it was, "We don't hear anything"... I call "bull****".... It wasn't that way when you sold it to me. Only good thing is that I happen to have a really decent Service Mgr that seems to want to try and help... Will post an update when I play around with it. Did notice that the rubberized molding around the pillar doesn't seem to fit well... It sounds like wind coming through the windshield or around the pilar itself....

I thought I was nuts! At least others are having the same problem. My crackling noise is coming from the front right speaker area. It happens with both the stereo on or off and only at 70 mph or more. I am really starting to believe it is static electricity noise coming from the speaker. If you are driving into a headwind it will do it as low as 60mph. If you have a tailwind you need to go 80 or more. If gets worse as your speed increases and is very annoying. This may sound far-fetched but could it be a grounding problem and the static electricity created by air passing around the car is crackling the speaker? I read the other posts about a possible air leak but it just doesn't sound right to me. I have spent way too much time speeding trying to find this noise. Any help would be appreciated.Mike

The noise that I hear comes from the drivers side pillar/windsheild area and is more of a rattle like air passing thru something or around something. I first noticed this when it was below freezing and traveling at 65 or more on the freeway. I turned up the defroster on high and it seemed to deminish the rattle. Living down south I don't get that much cold weather and I forgot about it until I had to go up to Cleveld Ohio this past weekend. I ranged from 9 degrees to 25 that weekend and all the way home it buzzed/rattled whatever. My guess is that those of you living in cooler climates the windsheild, frame etc. is contracting due to the cold and an air leak is exposed. I have been home now for a week and no problems. Just my guess.Bruce.
